Game of Thrones has finally come to a climactic end and it’s time to pay our respects to the best storytelling device in the entire series.
Sansa Stark’s hair.
Fans of Game of Thrones have known for a long time that the way Sansa styles her hair through each season is a clue as to how she is feeling at the time and so were eager to see what her final look would tell us.
In a past interview with Refinery29, Sophie Turner who plays Sansa Stark, said that if you want to know what’s going on with Sansa, look no further than her hair.
“It’s never random,” she said. “There’s always a pattern,” and each of the countless looks she’s worn over the last six years possesses a much deeper meaning.
“And when she’s finding the spirit of Margaery in herself, she wears her hair like Margaery.
“Sansa’s hair is constantly reflecting the people she’s learning from, or mimicking, or inspired by at the time.”
With this in mind, it seems fitting that one of the last shots of Sansa in the Game of Thrones series finale centred on her hair, sending us one final message.
Our last scenes with Sansa see her finally assuming her position as Queen of the North and she's wearing her hair completely down and unadorned except for her new crown.
Since she has done away with the elaborate styles and braids she has worn over the years, wearing her hair down seems to be a sign that she is now completely her own person and feels no need to follow fashions, send messages or make herself fit into any kind of mold.
After everything she has been through, it's a pretty great last message for Sansa Stark to send us.
