This week Pete Evans did a comeback radio interview. Almost the entire conversation was censored.

There's a big public profile difference between Pete Evans of the early My Kitchen Rules days versus the Pete Evans of today.

Over the past few years, we have seen Evans broadcast his controversial views more and more overtly – whether it be false health claims or his stance on vaccination and COVID-19. It's important to note that science and experts have denounced Evans' views time and time again.

Who could forget the moment in 2020 when he posted a deeply disturbing image to his social media – a cartoon depicting a caterpillar wearing a 'Make America Great Again' hat talking to a butterfly with a Black Sun symbol on its wing. (FYI, the Black Sun symbol was appropriated by the Nazis and is now commonly used by Neo-Nazis and other right-wing extremists.)

"An oldie but a Goldie," the chef captioned the picture. And when a user pointed out the context behind the symbol used within the cartoon, Evans simply replied, "I was waiting for someone to see that." His posting of the cartoon was widely condemned.

Evans then dipped out of the public arena, after having the vast majority of his social media accounts taken down.

This week, he resurfaced. And it has a lot of people talking.

On Thursday, Evans made a live appearance on the Kyle and Jackie O Show in a segment that ran for 25 minutes and saw him censored multiple times.

Throughout much of the conversation, he defended his actions and views. He said he had interviewed "hundreds of doctors". As for what they were doctors of... unsure.

Evans spoke about masks. He then touched on vaccines. As for what he specifically said – the vast majority was beeped out due to misinformation, and for that reason, we won't repeat it. 

But in case you were wondering if maybe Evans had changed his tune... no, he has not.

For part of the interview, Kyle Sandilands voiced his agreement for some of what Evans was saying, and they touched on the dreaded "COVID-19 lamp" (as it was referred to during the segment).

In case you don't remember, during a Facebook Live session in April 2020, Evans promoted a product called 'BioCharger', which claimed to optimise and improve potential health, wellness and athletic performance, and retailed at $15,000. 

And if you were wondering, it was bulls**t.

"It's programmed with a thousand different recipes and there's a couple in there for the Wuhan coronavirus," Evans claimed. The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) subsequently fined him $25,000 for misleading information. (In total, his fines reached $80,000 after the TGA launched an investigation into other claims Evans had made.)

Reflecting on that whole debacle, Evans said on the Kyle and Jackie O Show, "I never said it could cure COVID-19. I never said it would stop it."

He then went on to talk about 'vibrations'.

The show's newsreader Brooklyn Ross pulled Evans up on his doubling down, asking him: "You don't look back on that and think, 'I shouldn't have done that'?"

"No, not at all," Evans responded, defiant. Ross wasn't having it.

"Wow. So you've not really learned anything – because that's what really led to you being cancelled... People can't get out there selling snake oil and saying, 'Well this is gonna cure cancer', like Belle Gibson with her book and all that stuff."

Evans, however, countered that he never used the BioCharger's "setting for COVID-19".

Then we *finally* got to the Nazi symbol.

"100 per cent I had no idea it was that. I've never been associated with anything to do with Neo-Nazism," Evans said.

"And if you look at the body of work I've done, the 20 cookbooks, I celebrate every single culture that I know has beautiful food – including Jewish food, including Indigenous food. It's beyond ridiculous that anyone would associate me with being a white supremacist."

Evans then claimed it was a 'media attack'.

The comment Evans wrote underneath the infamous social media post – in which someone pointed out the symbol's meaning, and Evans replied, "I was waiting for someone to see that." – was not acknowledged during the segment.

Following this controversy in 2020, Evans was essentially cancelled.

He was dropped by numerous organisations, including Woolworths, Coles, Big W, Dymocks, Pan Macmillan, Kmart, Target, Baccarat, and Network 10, which had Evans pegged to be in the cast for I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Outta Here!

Reflecting on that situation, Evans told Kyle and Jackie O he has "gone on living my life" and "living the most beautiful life over the last few years since that cancelling".

Overall, Evans was beeped out for misinformation a total of 16 times in a 25-minute interview.

People who called into the radio segment to offer their own views were also censored. For context, Australian radio is regulated by the Radio Code of Conduct, which is implemented by Commercial Radio Australia. Broadcasters must not simulate news in such a way that is likely to mislead. There are also legal ramifications when misinformation is knowingly put to air.

Overall, Evans neither took accountability for anything he has previously claimed nor took responsibility for the ramifications of such claims. And therein lies the continual problem.
