'A plot of land in Australia' and plastic surgery: Here's what's in the Oscars gift bag.

Don’t feel sad if your favourite actor doesn't win at the 2023 Oscars. They'll still take home $126,000 USD (around $191,000 AUD) worth of ridiculous presents.

The annual Academy Awards takes place next Monday, March 13, and there are 26 nominees including Cate Blanchett, Michelle Yeoh and Austin Butler up for a prize. All of them will take home a gift bag.

Known as "Everyone Wins", the bags are compiled by LA-based marketing company Distinctive Asset and given to those nominated for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Director.

They contain approximately 60 items, with brands paying upwards of $4,000 USD to secure a spot inside, and require multiple suitcases to transport.

Although the actors have no obligation to keep the products or post about them, some have - Viola Davis and Mark Ruffalo shared photos from their free trips on Instagram, while Ron Howard hosted his son's wedding at a farm he visited through his Oscars gift bag.

Here's what's inside the 2023 version.

Stranger presents include a tiny piece of Australia valued at $645 AUD, which funds conservation efforts, a "Stop Monkey Imports To Labs" travel neck pillow from PETA, and a "mental health orb" that helps regulate stress.

Nominees can also choose between $38,000 worth of project management fees during a home renovation or $62,000 worth of beauty procedures, including arm sculpting and hair restoration services.

They can also book themselves in for a facelift with a celebrity surgeon, nibble on Japanese milk bread and guzzle edible massage oil.

Cool.

What's been in previous Oscar gift bags?

Although the 2023 gift bag sounds lavish (and it is), it's not the most extravagant one Distinctive Asset has pulled together. In 2015, nominees took home $20,000 worth of car rentals, a three-night stay a Tuscan villa and an $800 voucher for a candy buffet.

In 2017, there was a trip to Lost Coach Ranch in California valued at $40,000, five nights in Hawaii, three nights in Italy and a diamond bracelet.

Recent years' bags have also included cruises to Antarctica and personal plots of Scottish land for each recipient. Yep.

What's been the most expensive Oscars gift bag?

While this year's haul is worth an estimated $126,000 USD, it's actually a 10 per cent drop from last year – and 2020 takes the cake as having the most expensive bag, worth a huge $225,000 USD ($341,000 AUD).
