Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth were off-and-on for a decade. Here's where their lives are now.

When Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth fell in love and got married, their fans all hoped they would live happily ever after.

Sadly, it wasn't to be.

Their relationship spanned over a decade, and during that time, there were rumours, multiple breakups, a marriage, and an eventual divorce.

Here's everything we know about the pair.

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth's complicated history.

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth were first rumoured to be dating back in 2008 when they were cast in the film, The Last Song.

By March 2010, their relationship was officially confirmed when they made their red carpet debut.

By August 2010, the couple underwent their first (of many) breakups. They reportedly get back together again just two months later, but by November, a source told E! News they were on a "time out".

Hemsworth and Cyrus rekindled their relationship again and by 2012, the pair were engaged. But by September 2013, they'd officially called it quits.

In Cosmopolitan later that year, the Hannah Montana actor, who identifies as pansexual, not only confirmed their separation, but added that she was in the "best" season of her life.

"This is the best time of my life," she explained. "I’m not going to look back on it and be like, 'I wish I hadn’t been dwelling over a breakup,' you know? Because that’s not what God wants my life to be about right now?"

In 2014, Cyrus dated Arnold Schwarzenegger's son, Patrick, before breaking up a few months later.

In 2015, Hemsworth told Men's Fitness that Cyrus had been an "important part of his life," adding: "You fall in love with who you fall in love with; you can never choose."

In 2016, Cyrus and Hemsworth were back together.

Cyrus later told The Howard Stern Show that their relationship had to end in order for them to grow as people. "I had to [end it]. I don’t like when relationships are two halves trying to make a whole... So, I don’t think that I have that codependency," she explained.

"I think people that break up and get back together, that’s awesome. You get time to be yourself. You get time to grow up. I think if you’re growing up attached to another person, you never really get solid as your own being."

While the pair took it slow, they officially married in 2018 in a very private affair.

Despite the marital bliss, Cyrus admitted she loathed being labelled as a "wife", telling Elle in 2019: "Do people really think that I’m at home in a f**king apron cooking dinner? I’m in a hetero relationship, but I still am very sexually attracted to women," she said.

"I made a partner decision. This is the person I feel has my back the most. I definitely don’t fit into a stereotypical wife role. I don’t even like that word."

Sadly, in 2019, the pair confirmed they were no longer.

"Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers," their official statement read.

"They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy."

On her Instagram, Cyrus penned her own letter to fans, writing: "Don’t fight evolution, because you will never win. Like the mountain I am standing on top of, which was once underwater, connected with Africa, change is inevitable. The Dolomites were not created overnight, it was over millions of years that this magnificent beauty was formed.

"My dad always told me 'Nature never hurries, but it is always on time'... it fills my heart with peace and hope KNOWING that is true. I was taught to respect the planet and its process and I am committed to doing the same with my own..."

While the reasoning behind the separation were unclear, reports claimed Cyrus was "fed up" with her husband's excessive drinking habits.

"Everyone always thinks Miley is problematic and immature and a hard-core partier while he’s this chill surfer dude, but that’s actually [not accurate]," a source told People. "Liam parties with his friends, and Miley thinks he should’ve grown out of that by now."

The insider went on to claim that Hemsworth would "lash" out at Cyrus, which lead to the breakdown of their relationship.

"She’s been supportive of him when things get dark, but it’s tough... That’s something that has weighed on Miley and their relationship. He can also lash out at her, and he hates the attention their ups and downs bring."

While rumours circulated that Cyrus had cheated on Hemsworth, she officially rebuffed the claims in her own statement on Twitter, where she wrote that she was "not a liar".

"I can accept that the life I’ve chosen means I must live completely open and transparent with my fans who I love, and the public, 100% of the time. What I cannot accept is being told I’m lying to cover up a crime I haven’t committed. I have nothing to hide," she said.

"... But the truth is, once Liam & I reconciled, I meant it & I was committed. There are NO secrets to uncover here. I’ve learned from every experience in my life. I’m not perfect, I don’t want to be, it’s boring. I’ve grown up in front of you, but the bottom line is, I HAVE GROWN UP. I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating. Liam and I have been together for a decade. I’ve said it before & it remains true, I love Liam and always will.

She added: "BUT at this point I had to make a healthy decision for myself to leave a previous life behind. I am the healthiest and happiest I have been in a long time. You can say I am a twerking, pot smoking , foul-mouthed hillbilly but I am not a liar."

During the pair's divorce settlement, reports surfaced that they had split properties evenly but Cyrus got to keep all 15 of their pets - which included seven dogs, three cats, two horses, two mini horses, and one pig.

In 2020, Cyrus spoke again about their divorce - with permission from her ex-husband - on The Howard Stern Show.

During the interview, she revealed that there had been "too much conflict."

"When I come home, I want to be anchored by someone. I don’t get off on drama or fighting," she said before clarifying: "I really do and did love him very, very, very much and still do, always will."

Both Cyrus and Hemsworth have since moved on. While The Hunger Games actor went on to be linked with actor Maddison Brown, he settled down with model Gabrielle Brooks and even introduced her to his parents in January 2020, according to reports.

"While Liam’s family has been a huge support since the breakup with Miley, it was Gabriella who made him realise there is life after Miley. Gabriella is quiet, low-key," a source told Entertainment Tonight in April 2020. "She loves to be alone with Liam and isn’t seeking attention from others."

"When I look back, I know that I had feelings for her that were maybe different from feelings I had for other friends," Carter admitted in a podcast. "It was entirely unintentional, but I was very deeply in love with this person."

After Cyrus' split from Carter, she started dating her long-time friend and Australian athlete and singer, Cody Simpson, that October.

Simpson later told The Project he'd had a crush on the former Disney star for years: "I’ve always had a crush on her, I told her that... it worked," he joked.

Announcing their breakup in August 2020, Cyrus said they will remain close.

"We are just deciding who we wanna be in our lives, what we wanna do, and so, don’t make it some drama story if next week we’re hanging out, getting pizza," she told her followers.

"We’ve been friends for 10 years and we’re going to continue to be friends, so just don’t make it something that it is not."

As of 2022, Cyrus is romantically linked to fellow musician, Maxx Morando.

The actor and artist is also making major moves in her personal career, with Forbes reporting in December 2021 that she had struck a $40 million deal with NBCUniversal, to bring her back to television.

The publication also went on to say that Cyrus partnered with telehealth company Hims & Hers, and took an equity stake and creative role in the Hers skincare line.

Where is Liam Hemsworth now?

Hemsworth and Brooks have reportedly recently ended their relationship after three years together.

In December last year, Brooks told Stellar magazine that the couple were extremely private.

"My personal relationship is very, very important and very sacred to me," she explained. "And I feel like in an industry where so much is put out on show, there are some things you just want to keep to yourself. I completely understand [the interest in our relationship].

"But at the end of the day, I guess I just like having that for me."

According to In Touch Weekly, Hemsworth and Brooks split up "a couple of months ago" because Hemsworth did not want any distractions while working.

"He didn’t want to be tied down, and work has picked up since the pandemic ended," the source said.

Hemsworth is set to star alongside Russell Crowe in the action-thriller film Land Of Bad.
