In today’s dose of news that reminds us there is good in the world, Turia Pitt and finance, Michael Hoskin have welcomed a beautiful baby boy.
The 30-year-old, who suffered severe burns to more than 60 per cent of her body in 2011 while competing in a Racing The Planet Ultra marathon in WA struck by wild fire, announced her family’s new arrival via her newsletter.
“Michael and I want to introduce you to someone… Meet Hakavai Hoskin,” she wrote in her newsletter.
“We’ll be in this little newborn bubble for a few weeks but we wanted to pop our heads out for a moment to share the news directly with you.”
This is the first child for the couple, who met when they were teenagers and got engaged in 2015.
Since announcing her pregnancy in June, Turia has spoken about the kinds of parents she and Michael will be to Hakavai.
Having faced their fair share of challenges together, the couple are more than qualified to teach their son about the importance of resilience and living life to the fullest.
“We want to protect our kids and for everything to be good and great for them, I get that, but the truth is you can’t stop everything bad from happening to your kid,” the athlete and motivational speaker told The Advertiser.
“I want to teach him resilience; that no matter what happens the has the ability to cope because challenges are part of life.
“They will get their heart broken, bullied and not get the job they wanted, but I think it is better to give them tools to cope when that stuff happens.”
We have no doubt Turia and Michael will make wonderful parents, and we couldn't be happier for them.
