The important lesson Turia Pitt will be teaching her son.

When it comes to parenting, there’s a powerful lesson Turia Pitt and fiancé Michael Hoskin will be teaching their son.

There’s no doubt the couple have faced their fair share of challenges together, making them more than qualified to speak on the importance of being resilient.

“We want to protect our kids and for everything to be good and great for them, I get that, but the truth is you can’t stop everything bad from happening to your kid,” the athlete and motivational speaker told The Advertiser in July.

“I want to teach him resilience; that no matter what happens the has the ability to cope because challenges are part of life.

“They will get their heart broken, bullied and not get the job they wanted, but I think it is better to give them tools to cope when that stuff happens.”

We have a third wheel on all of our dates now (even on the African savannah).

The healthy birth of the couple’s first son Hakavai is a huge milestone for Turia, who suffered severe burns to more than 60 per cent of her body in 2011 while competing in a Racing The Planet Ultra marathon in WA struck by wild fire.

Speaking to Mia Freedman about her recovery, Turia explained it’s the resilience she hopes to instil in her son that got her through.

“Physically, it’s pretty obvious what I’ve gone through. But for me, emotionally, I think, ‘Well, the fire was only five seconds of my life, and I don’t want to let that five seconds tell me who I am and what I can do and what I can’t do in this world,” she said on the No Filter podcast in 2015.

“But every morning I wake up and I see my hands and remember what happened to me, but I just get out of bed and get on with my day.”
