Season two of the Stan Original Series The Tourist has officially gone into production.

Season two of the Stan Original Series The Tourist will soon be on our screens.

The upcoming six-part thriller starring Jamie Dornan was confirmed by Stan last month, and production is now officially underway.

Billed as one of Stan's most popular Original Series, season one of The Tourist saw Jamie Dornan (Belfast, The Fall, Barb and Star go to Vista Del Mar) star as Elliot, who found himself stranded in the heart of the Australian outback before getting caught up in an epic cat-and-mouse chase with a tank truck.

Elliot then woke up in the hospital with no idea who he was. Merciless figures from his past then began pursuing him, and Elliot’s search for answers propelled him into the unforgiving landscape of Australia.

Season two is set a year on from this initial adventure in the outback and takes place in Dublin.

This new season follows Jamie Dornan, and Danielle Macdonald (the Stan Original Series Poker Face, Patti Cakes) who reprise their roles as Elliot and Helen, as they travel to Ireland together.

Deciding that it's finally time for Elliot to rediscover his roots following the car crash that left him with severe memory loss, the pair find themselves dragged into the dangerous whirlwind of his past life.

Whilst Elliot fights with his own demons, Helen is left to pick up the pieces of a larger mystery.

"I'm incredibly excited to continue the story with The Tourist," Jamie Dornan said in a statement. "Harry and Jack Williams are brilliant writers, and I can't wait for audiences to see how well Ireland and its characters are utilised to keep them guessing as the tale progresses."

Danielle Macdonald agreed, saying: "I'm so excited to team up with Jamie again and return for another wild adventure with an amazing cast and crew. Jack and Harry Williams are brilliant storytellers and it's exciting to see what their minds will come up with next."

Stan confirmed this week that production on the second season is now underway, via an announcement with the BBC.

And there's a bunch of great talent involved as well, including fellow actors Conor MacNeill, Olwen Fouéré, Francis Magee, Mark McKenna, Diarmaid Murtagh, Nessa Matthews and Greg Larsen.

Stan Chief Content Officer Cailah Scobie said in a statement: "The first season of The Tourist was a great success and one of our most watched shows on Stan ever. With the announcement of the new cast confirmed to join Jamie Dornan and Danielle Macdonald, we know season two will once again thrill our Australian audiences. We are delighted to be working with BBC One and Two Brothers Pictures to deliver more world-class original content."

Lindsay Salt — BBC's Director of Drama — shared a similar sentiment, adding: "I could not be happier to welcome the phenomenon that is The Tourist back to BBC One and iPlayer. With an ingenious new adventure from the dazzling minds of Harry and Jack Williams, things are about to get even wilder for Elliot and Helen."

Danielle Macdonald had previously told Mamamia, from the set of The Tourist while filming the first season, that her character was just finding her feet in a new job. And it's a character that Macdonald said she was thoroughly enjoying.

"I play a police officer called Helen Chambers and when the audience first see her it's basically her first day, she's very new to all this but eager to do the right thing," she said.

"Helen has a good heart, and she wants to help this person, so she offers to help figure out his real identity and that's how she gets pulled into this big crazy mystery.

"There are lots of surprises in this story, when I first read the script I was immediately pulled into the world."

The Tourist season two will be available in 2024, only on Stan. The first season is available to watch now on Stan.
