CULT BUY: The body lotion people swear by to help them get to sleep.

Sleep-deprived parents, night-owls, shift-workers and the perpetually tired have been singing the praises of a product they say guarantees them a good night’s sleep.

And it’s not a pill, a white noise machine or an expensive piece of new technology. No, it’s a body lotion.

The queens and kings of all things hand-made, good-smelling and skin-loving at Lush have created a moisturising cream aptly named ‘Sleepy’ specifically for before-bed use.

With oatmeal, cocoa butter and lavender water, it’s described as smelling of “sugar plums and hot drinks topped with whipped cream”.

Simply slather some on, rest your head on the pillow and drift off into a peaceful night of sleep.

Sounds too good to be true right? We were just as sceptical. Until we saw the dozens of positively glowing reviews on Lush’s UK website.

“I have been using my small pot from Christmas sparingly – only when I was really stressed, or really having trouble falling asleep. That should tell you a bit about the magic of this lotion. It smells like sweet lavender and just makes you take a deep breath after you take a whiff,” shared one fan.

“This, in my opinion, is the best body lotion lush has to offer! …The scent straight out of the pot is sweet and then when you apply it it has a relaxing, heavenly lavender scent that puts me right to bed!” gushed another.

One woman who says she has trouble sleeping sometimes, but “detests lavender”, because it gives her a headache, tried the product after her husband bought it for her.

“This tub was placed onto my dressing table, destined to pass it’s best before date and (inevitably) end up in the bin.

“One sleepless night, when I was at the end of my tether, I found myself slathering this all over my upper body and dabbing a small amount onto my temples – hopeful that it just might do the trick. It did… I soon found myself having a wonderfully restful nights sleep. I am now a lavender convert! Would highly recommend this product.”

Another mum slathers the product on her arms, neck and chest and a “teeny bit under my nose so the scent completely envelopes me” – which she says is very soothing when she’s feeling restless.

One mum even suggests using it on the kids.

“It’s light but moisturising and extremely comforting on my sensitive skin. I also use on my children before bed. After 20 years plus of using lush this is a new firm favourite,” she wrote.
