So, are sheet masks worth the money? Here's our verdict.

I’m a skincare junkie.

I want ALL of the potions and serums and Jesus tears I can get my greedy little mitts on; partly because sometimes they work, but also because I just enjoy taking some ‘me time’ to rub various lotions on my face. Also, it’s cathartic. And fun. And I’ll be damned if I have to play FIFA with my boyfriend.

Like anything beauty-related, there are trends that come and go with the seasons. And 2018, it seems, is All About The Sheet Mask; those gooey, slightly-scary cut outs that make you look like a serial murderer who regularly practices self-love.

So when skin whisperer and entrepreneur Zoe Foster Blake released a sheet mask with her company Go-To this week, I knew what I had to do. Whack it on my face, stay away from reflective surfaces/unsuspecting loved ones, and “wait 10 to 15 minutes”.

But before we get into the nitty-gritty of the Transformazing Sheet Mask, what the Jeff are sheet masks anyway, and are they worth your precious cashola?

What are sheet masks and how do they work?

Generally speaking, sheet masks are sopping wet bits of spongey cloth that work by delivering a high concentration of nutrients evenly into your skin’s dermis (that’s the layer of skin tissue underneath the top layer that contains capillaries and sweat glands which can get clogged up over time).

Because they cuddle right up to your skin, sheet masks give you an injection of goodness while also allowing the skin to breathe. This gentle delivery method helps the skin absorb them faster and more efficiently than traditional masks and creams.

This sheet mask specifically targets ageing or damaged skin cells and loss of collagen that can exacerbate the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Magic bedagic.

What does the Go-To Skincare Transformazing sheet mask do?

OK. So. My interpretation of the Go-To instructions is that the Transformazing sheet mask is best used in two scenarios:

  1. You want to look amazing for a big event
  2. You would quite like to look like you’re still alive after a big event

The fancy sheets can do this because they’re packed full with plant-based ingredients, like the world’s richest source of Vitamin C, kakadu plum, finger lime for hydration and collagen production support, and the antioxidant Tasmanian pepper leaf.

Transformazing also contains niacinamide to brighten, hydrate and heal your skin, and hyadisine, which basically plumps it up like a beautiful bouncy castle.

Essentially, this sheet mask’s job is to revive your skin to it’s best.

What is your very important verdict on the Go-To sheet mask?

These Go-To masks are wonderful. Seriously. Bloody wonderful. Five stars. Six, if that’s allowed.

The mask left my skin looking radiant and dewy without ever stepping into that dreaded sweaty/oily territory. Somehow my skin also looked more even, despite the mask only being on for a scroll through Instagram.

I know that some people might be turned off by the price; a pack of six setting you back $45 sounds expensive, but I assure you it isn’t. It’s good value. The pack isn’t something you’ll whip out to use once a week (in case you’re a celebrity who has big events every week – in which case I’m sure you can cop the cost.) These are the secret weapons you pull out on occasion.

Weddings! Engagement parties! Your birthday! Your best friend’s birthday! Your dog’s birthday if you’re so inclined!

They’re special. And, in my opinion, should be reserved exclusively for when you want to take that extra step to look like the love child of Beyonce and Ryan Gosling.

A pack might last you a year.

So, would I recommend you picking up a pack of six from Go-To? Yes, I would. When I use my other five, I will be repurchasing them for myself.

While you’re here, there’s a brand new NSFW skincare trend (that has nothing to do with Zoe Foster Blake) that we need to talk about. Post continues.

What are other good sheet masks out there?

Last month Mamamia’s beauty fanatic and editorial assistant Amy Clark gave the Skin Republic Stem Cell Plant Protein Face Mask Sheets ($15) a whirl, and had this to say about them:

The Skin Republic Stem Cell Plant Protein Face Mask Sheets are a gentle, non-threatening option if you’re looking to feel a bit luxe on a Sunday afternoon.

Yes, I have very young skin that doesn’t yet concern itself with wrinkles. But I could see and feel a difference in my skin’s glowiness and springiness – scientifically speaking – both in the minutes and hours after use.

If you’ve got sensitive skin like mine or don’t feel like going the whole hog with a thicker clay mask, this mask fits the brief.

There’s also something inherently nurturing about the ritual of putting on a face mask. Whether you rub your temples wearing one right before bed or chuck one on while binge watching TV, face masks are as much about self care as they are your skin.

And they’re just really, really fun.

You can grab the Go-To Skincare Transformazing Sheet Mask (one for $9 or six for $45) on the Go-To website, or shop the Skin Republic Stem Cell Plant Sheet Mask (three for $14.97) and other sheet masks on Mamamia Shopping.
