Want people to respect you and like you? Wear black.

Anna Wintour famously hates it and Abercrombie & Fitch banned employees from wearing it in their stores.

Black. Now, there’s one very convincing reason you should consider bulking up your wardrobe with it.

Apparently wearing black can make you appear more reliable, serious and more of a team player. Why? Because black makes you appear more confidentA new survey has found that those who regularly don black appear more self-assured than those who don’t. Even if they’re not.

The survey discovered that in situations where you need to impress someone, like a job interview, first date or meeting your partner’s parents, black should be your colour of choice.

"Throughout all our survey, black came first or second in most 'good' traits (for example, confidence, intelligence and sexiness) and barely figured in the 'bad' traits (arrogance)," one of the study's spokespeople explained.

"If you want to feel confident, you're probably going to have to go with black. A conclusive 56 per cent of respondents in our survey favoured black as a colour of confidence. Split by gender, 48 per cent of women and 64 per cent of men favoured it."

The least favourable colour to wear? Pink can apparently signify a lack of intelligence. (We reckon that's bullshit, just quietly.)

The conclusion to draw from this? (Post continues after gallery.)

"Black is the colour to wear when you're trying to impress, reassure or woo. There's a certain trustworthiness about it on a person that would make you hand over your life savings and thank them for the privilege," the study's spokesperson said.

There you have it.

What do you think of the results?
