These days it feels like I learn more from TikTok than anywhere else, especially when it comes to beauty.

If I’m looking for makeup inspo, I go to TikTok. Searching for product reviews? TikTok.

What I love most about TikTok is that you get to hear from everyone.

From brands and fancy makeup artists, to the everyday girlies who are on the hunt for a high quality, budget-friendly product, there’s room for us all.

My favourite thing is when I’m scrolling on TikTok and I stumble across a game-changing beauty hack that doesn’t just simplify the makeup process, but elevates my look too.

Below I’ve compiled a list of 5 makeup hacks I’ve adopted thanks to that stunning TikTok algorithm. And to demonstrate (I knew you'd want pics!), I'm putting one of my *favourite* luxe-for-less beauty brands, MCoBeauty, to work, including their 3 new launches (!!!).

You're welcome.

Hailey Bieber's foundation application hack.

Applying foundation looks different for everyone. Recently I came across a TikTok from Hailey Bieber that people have now coined as the ultimate foundation application hack.

Instead of applying the product straight to her face or using the back of her hand for popping product first, she puts it in the palm of her hand and then starts to apply with a brush.

Here I’m using the same method but with my application tool of choice, a beauty blender.

You might be thinking, why on earth would I put my foundation on my palm? Well, let me tell you why Hailey Bieber is onto something here.

Firstly, the palm of your hand has zero pores. This means the foundation won’t sink into your skin and you won’t lose any product during the application process. And more product means more coverage, which we love.

Secondly, by using your palm as the base for picking up product, you are warming up the formula before applying it to your face. This will let the foundation do what it was made to do, and give you that glowy, natural base so that the rest of your makeup can easily layer on top.

For this look I’m using MCoBeauty's new (and highly anticipated) Flawless Glow Luminous Skin Filter in the shade 5 Natural Medium. OBSESSED. God-tier level dupe that has hydration-boosting squalane in it, and is only $35!!

The blush placement hack.

One of the earliest makeup hacks I found on TikTok was a video where a girl was experimenting with blush placement all over different parts of her face, not just the apples of her cheeks.

For me, that was the light bulb moment when I realised there are no rules when it comes to doing your own makeup.

It wasn’t long before I started to play around with my own blush placement, choosing between putting blush along my cheekbones like a contour to really define my face structure or bringing the blush right up to my undereyes and across the bridge of my nose so it looks as though it seamlessly melts into the rest of my foundation.

BONUS HACK: Liquid blush also doubles as a shimmery, iridescent, pink hued eyeshadow.

The liquid blush I’m using here is the Highlight & Glow Beauty Wand ($29) in the shade Blush Glow, which the internet can't get ENOUGH of.

The... unusual highlighter hack.

I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with liquid highlighters.

I think they are so beautiful when applied properly, but I, myself, could never finesse the right placement without things getting messy and highlighter smearing across half my face.

This following TikTok hack is one of the quirkier TikTok hacks I’ve tried but it’s definitely still worth giving a go if you’re a lover of liquid highlighters and want to nail the placement.

First you need to apply your liquid highlighter to the edge of your palm, then lightly stamp your hand onto the part of your face you want the highlight to sit.

Depending on your highlighter, you’ll hardly need to touch up and will be left with a neat, even distribution of product that you can easily buff into your skin without the product moving too much.

I’ve picked MCoBeauty's new Luminous Highlighter Pen ($25) in the shade 2.5 for this look. It's a shimmer-free highlighter with warm undertones, and is a click-pen scenario that releases the formula to brighten, highlight and just give a super natural, luminous finish.

The side-to-side lip balm hack.

According to TikTok, it turns out, the way you apply your tinted lip balm can actually impact how much colour comes out?

To get the most pigment for your lips you need to apply the lip balm in short, swift side-to-side movements across your lips.

You want to be able to feel the friction between the product and the skin of your lips as this helps to warm up the product and melt the lip balm pigment giving you a long-lasting colour with a glossy finish. Mwah.

For today’s look I’m using the Sheer Tint Lip Balm ($22) in the shade Bella Vita. This one is a non-sticky formula, uses jojoba seed oil and glides on really easily so it's the perfect daily hydrating balm.

The mascara prep hack.

This one is less of a mascara hack and more of a mascara prepping hack so that your lashes stay curly and long all throughout the day.

TikTok likes to think of it as a budget-friendly DIY lash lift.

Before I apply my favourite mascara, I’ll use a hairdryer to warm up my eyelash curler. For obvious reasons, it’s super important to let your lash curler cool down before you go in to curl your lashes. Wait a few minutes at least.

After curling your lashes (and avoiding any third degree burns), you can apply mascara from the root of your lashes slowly turning the lash wand as you reach the top.

Layering a few coats will give your eyes that full lash look that will last until night.

Here I’m seen using a cult-favourite in the beauty community, the Xtend Lash Tubular Mascara ($28) which gets sold every 39 seconds. Wild!
