Oh hey, did you have plans this weekend? Cancel them.
The trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has landed and you’ll need to watch it at least five times before taking your inevitable deep dive into obscure Star Wars fan theories and getting into a Twitter fight with a troll who just can’t deal with Another Strong Female Lead.
Seriously, clear your schedule.
The news spin-off film will première on December 17, this year. It’s a stand alone film, but time-wise it slots in somewhere before A New Hope and after young-Darth Vader is left for dead in that volcano.
About here:
The plot centres around a group of rebel fighters on a mission to steal plans for the Death Star, aptly led by criminal Jyn Erso, played by British actress Felicity Jones.
It’s the second consecutive Star Wars film with woman in charge after Rey stole the show in Force Awakens — a fact not gone unnoticed by the angry men of the Twitterverse.
Even the trailer passes the bechdel test and personally, we couldn’t be more pleased.
The similarities between Jyn and Rey don’t stop with gender either, leading many to speculate the former could be the latter’s mum.
GENETICS???
The film will also star Diego Luna, Mads Mikkelsen, Forest Whittaker and our very own Ben Mendelsohn.
Honestly, we could talk about it all day, but we'll leave the rampant speculation between you and that Google search you'll be doing as soon as you're done watching the trailer.
May the force be with you.
