I think a big part of the issue is generalisations are being made & will do harm. People who can advocate for themselves & want more autonomy is completely understandable. The crimes mentioned in the commission are completely unacceptable & no one should be made to feel unsafe. Where I live kids go to special when they multiple things (conditions) going on & their needs cannot be met in the mainstream public school system. I do not see the school system coping with kids with multiple needs. I think there should be caution with advocates making assumptions about all people with disabilities. Yes, I think kids should have more support in mainstream schools to facilitate their education but I don't think that is happening now. Teachers & staff are already overloaded so I completely agree with this author these are my concerns. I have ADHD myself but I would never make claims for every Neurodivergent person as our needs are all completely different. I hope that Parents are being forced to remove their kids from special schools but it sounds like it is going to or is happening...... I'm really concerned that it will result in an entire demographic of people (i.e. children with "high needs") not getting any sort of education at all......
