So, if a footballer beats his wife one drunken evening, we should still award him a Brownlow ‘for his footy’??
@rambaldi11 Well if 'tennis' is so quick to dispose of Australia after such a long tradition of hosting a Grand Slam then 'bye!' Pretty sure Australia will have plenty of sports hosting to go on with..
@snorks It depends on the values you are basing it on. Will he lay awake at night feeling completely alone in the world? Almost certainly. Ask any mental health professional and they will affirm he displays all the characteristics of a clinical narcissist. Do narcissists suffer deep loneliness and insecurity, the cause of their poor empathy skills and mistreatment of people? Absolutely. We all know Trump struggles to sleep. So a billionaire he might be (although Daddy is the success story - not multi-bankrupt Donald), but is he feeling like a winner right now? No, he never has or will. He is a very lonely child who learned to be a highly skilled bullshitter whose mother and father emotionally neglected him and only praised him when he bullied and overpowered others. He walks away as one of the most despised American Presidents, by his fellow Americans, political peers and world leaders. He is no winner. He deserves pity, not reverence.
@guest2 Nup, wrong. Even Coalition voters, who are obsessed with business-first understand why Vic couldn't risk losing the Australian Open to another state or country who'd snap it up if we postponed.
Have been watching the progression of Djokevic's public standing for a while, since seeing a documentary where he talks about the improvement to his fitness and tennis by reverting from conventional medicine to wellness principles. The impacts on his health were substantial due to the changes. Unfortunately for him, he verbalised that his new approach included rejection of pharmaceutical-based medicines, including vaccines. Hence, the media re-casting of Djokevic from one of the nice guys of tennis to the new villain who is constantly savaged. Another reminder to us all never to piss off Big Pharma.
Kyrgios calling Djocevic a tool. Pot calling kettle..
Why would she choose to do that, knowing the father would be devastated? We don’t know everything yet but there is more..
MCormack’s idea of free speech means then we can openly call out Conservatives in the Coalition as backward dinosaurs who would be very upset about the demise of Trump and his Republican enablers. Now we just need Australian voters, especially women, to see that our Conservative coalition is much the same, stuck in the past at a time when a future planetary focus is needed more than ever.
@james b The BLM protests were peaceful but in the face of aggressive treatment by police (unlike how Capitol Rioters were treated) became violent. Typical Conservatives to divert their shame to the black protest movemnt, always too cowardly to own their ugly.
@jadebleese Why did she? That’s what we’ll see.
A necessary reminder to parents to ‘see’ their kids. Instead of dumping them into endless years of sport, look at what they are actually interested in. It is no wonder that so many kids, especially boys, get to Yr 12 without a clue what they want to do after having done just sport as extra curricular activity for years. How many more physios and PT’s do we need!
WE need to acknowledge all the pathology workers in Victoria who were given three days paid leave over Christmas as a thank you for all their hard work during lockdown. Unfortunately they’ve all been recalled from leave to man the testing stations so that all the selfish interstate travellers from NSW can be tested. Why can’t people just stay home!
@cat Highly educated on the topic actually. Always amused by the supposed feminists here who still think women should be able to choose the 1950’s option and it wont impact womens’ progress. I guess I’m a proud radical. And recent polls show Scomo had the highest approval rating among women. Long way to go!!
@katp Women are me. We are a collective who will only achieve equality if we do it together.
@vicki_3188 You have boys so luckily for you, you’re not going to be their main role model. Research shows children largely model themselves on their gender parent. However, what message do you want to send your 21st century sons about women’s roles? Does your partner share your stay-at-homeness? How did you decide you would be the one to step away from your career? Working mothers can be great mothers just like stay at homes can be terrible. Every woman who steps back, sets us back.
@katp My mum was home every day after school but it was my friends’ working mothers, who role-modelled to me what I was capable of. My mum never lived to her true potential which is a tragedy that can’t continue. Who knows how much further along the human race would be if we’d tapped into all human potential, rather than just half of it?
@cat What female colleagues, if you had your way?
@elishatraill Don’t make assumptions about my version of feminism. My version is that if women want equality, we need more women in charge. Once there are equal numbers of those as men, then we can decide whether he or she does the ironing. We tried the women in the home thing, for, like, millenia, it didn’t get us far. We now need to do the opposite. If men don’t retire once they have children, women shouldn’t either. And you’ll find in Women’s Studies curricula that it is Conservatism that keeps women back. Every time we vote in a traditional man of faith as leader, like our Scomo, women are held back. Organised religion depends on being financed by poor third world women, who remain second-class citizens while providing monetary support to Conservative men who influence who retains political power. How many women does Scomo have on his team? How much chance is there of womens’ issues getting prominence by his team right now? Meanwhile, Nicola Sturgeon in Scotland just made feminine hygeine products government subsidised. Women need all educated hands on deck, contributing to public decision-making outside the home, if we are ever to see our daughters equally respected. Women who still fluff around with the ‘women should get to choose and respect one another’s choices’ mantra are wasting our time. How many female PM’s have we had in Australia, while women choose to retire after having children? The best hope is Penny Wong who doesn’t want it because of the backlash her family would get from the misogynist Conservatives in this country. Australia is still a very backward place for women and minorities. Women simply have to work harder!
