World Pride Is More Than Rainbows: Don’t Forget LGBTQIA+ History

This weekend Sydney kicks off WorldPride, a global celebration for the LGBTQIA+ community. 17 days of events, performances, rainbows and glitter as far as the eye can see.

We'll see buildings lit up in the Pride flag, streets lined for the annual Mardi Gras Parade,  and thousands of LGBTQIA+ members celebrating.

But amidst the celebration, will also be a human rights conference that aims to create a world that is safe, free and equal for LGBTQIA+ people.

It's sometimes hard to remember the stigma and discrimination that the LGBTQIA+ community still face when we see celebrated pop culture icons and Pride parades with their rainbow flags. But discrimination continues everyday.

In this episode we hear from members of the LGBTQIA+ community about their personal experiences with discrimination, as well as speaking to Equality Australia's Legal Director about what we can still do as a nation to protect the LGBTQIA+ community.
