Teen's "ungrateful" reply to mum's birthday gift lands her in internet's naughty corner.

A US teen has been labelled ‘ungrateful’ and ‘disrespectful’ after Tweeting her less-than-impressed response to her mother’s birthday surprise.

Jenna Fluegeman of Cincinatti, Ohio, shared a text message exchange with her mum, in which the woman revealed she’d arranged for a special Snapchat filter to be set up around the 17-year-old’s school.

The sweet gesture meant that anyone in the area who shared a picture via the popular app could could apply a stamp which read, “Jenna’s 17th Birthday. 03.30.17.”

The images Jenna shared on Twitter.

Jenna's response? "Why would you do that?"

Curious how she's angered her daughter, the woman replied, "Sheesh, thought you would like it. I guess I just can't do anything right. Whatever."

After tweeting the exchange with the caption, "My mom does the absolute most", more than 1400 people replied to Jenna, many of whom chastised her for her attitude.

To others it was inspiration to show appreciation to their own mums.

After being inundated with the backlash, Jenna responded in an attempt to clear the air.

"For anyone who's wondering I obviously thanked my mom for it and it was very thoughtful but I didn't want that attention from my whole school," she posted.

"People will talk about it either way, if I wanted the Snapchat filter I was full of myself if I didn't want it I was ungrateful.

"You can't please everyone."
