“Comedian” Joan Rivers has officially gone too far.
Today, 80-year-old Rivers made fun of the three women who were held captive for a decade in Ariel Castro‘s basement. She thought it was appropriate – funny, even, presumably – to crack a joke about Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus, all three of whom were chained, raped, and trapped in that monster’s house for 10 years, before they were finally rescued in May 2013.
Rivers said that those three traumatised, brave young victims should stop complaining because “They got to live rent free for more than a decade.” Talking about the size of her daughter Melissa’s spare room, she said “Those women in the basement in Cleveland had more space.”
And, when she was challenged on her decision to mock the decade-long horror of three young women for a one-liner, she told gossip site TMZ: “One of them has a book deal. Neither are in a psych ward. They’re ok. I bet you within three years one of them will be on Dancing with the Stars.”
Like the very real, private horror of these three women means nothing because one day they might have the kind of dubious fame Rivers herself is so high on.
Like the shock value of her own comedy career is important enough to publicly humiliate three women who’ve been through hell.
Most comics get a couple of second chances. Joan Rivers has had hundreds.

LOL She does go "too far" but that's her schtick. All comics have a calling card, that's hers. She is not a genuinely horrible person. She takes no crap and calls them as she sees them. She's actually a very nice person privately.
