It’s the question that is pitting colleague against colleague, mate against mate.
What colour is That Dress?
Yesterday, a photo popped up on the internet that is turning even the finest of minds to mush.
Before we go any further, take a look at the photo in question.
Tell us: What two colours do you see?
Is it WHITE and GOLD?
Or is it BLUE and BLACK?
Here it is again.
It is worth asking everyone in your immediate vicinity to identify which two colours appear on the fabric of this (ok, ugly and) very confusing piece of clothing.
It seems that about 3/4 of people are seeing WHITE AND GOLD.
The other 1/4? They’re seeing BLACK and BLUE.
So, is this a mind-bending image that makes you question every single thing you see – or a massive internet prank?
There are a number of theories floating around – most relating to how our eyes perceive colour, especially when the object in question is lit with daylight or fluorescent light. This is just one of them:
ABC 702 asked Dr Karl and while he has offered a few different explanations, he sees the dress as “light blue and browny gold” (to which host Richard Glover replied, “You’re mad, Dr Karl”).

So, we’d love to hear what you think: what colour is the dress? Is it perhaps genetic – do all members of your family see the same thing?
