Five ways to fix oily skin and get rid of those damn pimples.

If you’ve always had oily skin, you’re probably very well versed in blotting papers.

It’s probably no surprise that your skin is oily. You’ve been dealing with pimples, large pores and shiny skin on a daily basis.

Read on for five tips that can help skin that is prone to oiliness and breakouts.

1. Absorb excess oil.

If you’ve always had oily skin, you are probably so well versed in blotting papers that you’ve made like MacGyver and used toilet paper covers in a nightclub shine emergency. (P.S. Don’t, they’ve been found to be one of the most germ-ridden surfaces in public toilets.)

Along with blotting papers, regularly using an oil-absorbing product, like a pressed powder, primer or mattifying foundation, will help to keep the skin shine free.

2. Drop the drying ingredients.

Using drying, alcohol-based cleansers and toners seems like a good idea, but they’re not. While they make your skin feel less oily in the short term, the stripping causes the skin to produce more sebum, which will in turn produce more pimples – what you were trying to avoid in the first place.

Look for gels, serums and oils.

3. Go for gels.

While emollient-rich moisturisers are great for dry skin, they have the opposite effect on oily skin. Look for gels, serums and oils to treat the over pore-clogging moisturisers.

4. Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate.

Exfoliation is an oily girl’s best friend.

Generally speaking those with oily skin have a thicker Epidermis layer (thanks to excess sebum) so you can get away with exfoliating more often than those with dry skin.

Exfoliating removes dead skin cells and impurities, helping to unclog blocked pores, which we know leads to pimples, blackheads and acne.

5. Be gentle!

Okay, no one likes pimples, particularly ‘backne’ come summer when you want to show off some skin, but caring for oily skin still requires a gentle touch.

Use a gentle body wash, like Dove’s Triple Moisturising Deeply Nourishing Body Wash to help keep areas prone to breakouts cleansed and clear.

Some simple things to remember when it comes to skin care:

If you have oily skin, how do you try to avoid getting pimples?

During winter your skin might start to feel dry, scaly and rough, and  the use of some body washes can strip the moisture from your skin rather the rejuvenate. Dove is different. With breakthrough Nutrium Moisture®, it’s proven to hydrate and nourish skin deep down* and maintain its beauty. Dove Triple Moisturising Body Wash is a rich creamy formulation, featuring a breakthrough blend of moisturisers enriched with skin natural lipids that can deeply absorb within the skin’s surface to nourish deep down* when you shower. Dove leaves your skin feeling soft and supple, giving a touch of pampering nourishment in the shower. That’s the Dove Difference!
