God-fearing dad advertises his "godly, gorgeous virgin" daughter in classifieds.

Desperately seeking love, an Illinois man recently decided to use his hard-earned coin to take out a personal ad in a well-known Christian magazine. You know the kind, “Man seeks husband for virgin daughter”.

The advertisement, which appeared in the “jobs” section of Christianity Today, was seeking a suitor for his 26-year-old daughter, Rachel, who he described as a “godly, gorgeous” young woman with a quality education under her belt, a cracking sense of humour and athletic build. There was even a link to her blog should potential candidates desire more info. Handy.

The advertisement also disturbingly described potential candidates for the position as “unworthy, though becoming more so everyday”.

The big catch – aside from Rachel, of course – was that the young woman was blissfully unaware that her father had chosen to peddle her so publicly. According to the Daily Beast, Rachel was only alerted to the advertisement via comments on her blog. After an awkward phone conversation with her apparently well-meaning father, she wrote, “Impressed, but not surprised, I laughed then hung up”. Needless to say, there was more than a little backlash against both Mr Stewart for submitting the ad and also against Christianity Today for publishing it. There’s been no word from the proud pops so far, but the magazine has issued the following apology.

It’s unclear whether the advertisement was successful, but, according to Daily Beast, Rachel was hopeful. “I’m just nervous if this doesn’t work out, next I’ll find my face plastered on a billboard,” she wrote. “Oh gosh, now I’m giving him ideas.”
