Worlds are colliding: Ed Sheeran confirms he'll appear in hugely popular TV show.

If you weren’t already looking forward to Game of Throne’s upcoming season, news that Ed Sheeran will guest star on the popular HBO series is sure to get you excited.

The British singer-songwriter has confirmed he will appear in the seventh season of the bloodthirsty fantasy series after a showrunner revealed he would feature.

Like most 19-year-old girls, star Maisie Williams, who plays Aria Stark, is a fan of the pop megastar – and that’s part of the reason the show’s producers were pursuing him, Deadline Hollywood reports.

“We knew that Maisie was a big fan of Ed Sheeran and for years we’ve been trying to get him on the show so we can surprise Maisie,” GoT co-creator David Benioff explained.

“This year we finally did it.”

Benioff also revealed that the show’s eighth and final season is set to have only six episodes, following the seven episodes of  season seven.

There’s no word yet on what character Sheeran will play and whether he will perform while on the show, like fellow musicians Icelandic bands Of Monsters and Men and Sigur Rós during their appearances.

It’s also possible that Sheeran could appear unrecognisable, like members of heavy metal band Mastodon, who played zombified Wildlings in 2015.

Whatever the case fans will have plenty of time to wait, and speculate – season seven doesn’t premiere on HBO until July 16.
