'I've swapped moisturiser for body oil. These 5 are the best I've tried.'

I've always had dry skin. Like, really dry.

Over the years, I've tried every moisturiser there is, and lathered my body with it night after night, morning after morning.

While this practice has kept the extreme dryness under control, my skin has always remained a little bit … lacklustre. In the end, I simply chose my creams by their scent. I mean, who doesn't love to smell good?

And then I discovered body oils.

It happened by accident, after I received a sample in a subscription beauty box (turns out they are effective at selling you new products after all!).

I used it for one week, and I was hooked. Since then, I've tried a range of different oils and my skin has noticeably transformed. It is significantly softer and smoother - and feels amazing.

I still use creams in the morning, opting for oils at night after a shower, and it is THE BEST way to wind down after a busy day.

So I'm not going to gatekeep any longer. Here are five of my favourites.

Biologi Face and Body Serum, $72.

This is a super strong body oil that I love to use on my arms and lower legs, both areas of my body that need intense moisture. It comes in a pump so it's easy to manage. If I use this serum before I go to bed, I wake up with genuinely smooth skin, which is a huge feat for me.

Muse Butt Gloss, $58.

Although this body oil is marketed as 'butt skin treatment', I use it on my upper legs and stomach as well. It has the most glorious scent and leaves my skin feeling and smelling divine. It comes in a little dropper, so you have to be careful not to miss your skin and oil up the bathroom tiles, but that's because you only need such a small amount.

Palmer's Coconut Hydrate Body Oil, $9.

I love using Palmer's Coconut oil whenever I want an extra dose of oil-based moisture, either in the morning (outside of my usual nighttime routine), or at any time of day 'just because'. Its affordable price means I feel comfortable using it liberally, plus I’m a sucker for anything that smells of coconuts. Doesn't matter how old I get, the trademark Palmer's smells of cocoa butter and coconut continue to lure me in.

Clarins Body Treatment Oil, $78.

The texture is light and non-oily, leaving your skin feeling so nice, and smelling delicious. A little goes a long way, so you'll get your money's worth, and you'll feel like you've just walked out of a day spa.
