'I'm a beauty editor and there are 7 beauty resolutions I'm making this year.'

Nothing hectic. Just a little ol' list. Because it feels appropriate, doesn't it? Coming into a new year and all.

Not because you need to change your entire beauty routine every time we hit January 1st – nah. You do you. It's just cause I feel like:

a) A lot of these are changes I'm already starting to make
b) You'll help keep me accountable. Won't you? Love what you've done with your hair, by the way.

So! Along with standard things that I'll probably never follow through with (LED masks, consistency with ingestible supplements), below I've pulled together six things I actually really want to change about my beauty routine this year.

Here we go.

1. Curb the heat tools.

If there's one thing I apparently love to do, it's sizzle the s**t out of my hair. I use heat tools approximately TOO much. Literally, like, every day since I was 21. Meaning? My hair tends to be a dry, damaged mess. Even when I pile on the heat protectant. And use all of the nourishing hair masks.

That's why one of my main goals this year is to *finally* work out how to embrace my natural texture and curls. I have the styling skills of a potato, while makes not looking like the Paddle Pop Lion very tricky, but I'm going to give it a whirl.

So take five, heat tools.

2. Natural nails over SNS or shellac.

No matter how much I like to pretend to myself that I'm going to get SNS or shellac professionally removed, I will always pick it off. Sorry, I don't make the rules!

Invariably, it absolutely buckles my nails and leaves them looking raggedy and unhealthy.

Towards the end of 2022, I pulled back on manicures (I can't even remember the last time I had one), and instead, focused on repairing the strength and health of my nails.

This year, I'm going to continue doing the same thing – ditch the spendy manicures and stop busting up my nails.

3. Play with my makeup look.

My everyday makeup look is the same, you guys. It mainly consists of boring neutrals and browns. While it works (I think), it can feel a bit... meh. Especially when I'm lucky enough to receive so many cool, fancy schmancy products. Seems silly not to be a little more adventurous, right?

This year I'm going to commit to being a little more outlandish and shaking my makeup look up a bit. More colour! More zoosh! Maybe a fake moustache! Watch this space.

4. Organise my beauty products.

My favourite thing is pretending I have some kind of organisational structure to the mounds of products I'm lucky enough to receive. I... don't. And it makes things very tricky.

The cabinets, drawers and wardrobes in my house are literally exploding with products, and I like to tell myself there's some sort of method to it, but there really isn't. There really isn't.

It's all just shoved into different spaces, really. I keep meaning to look through everything, chuck what's expired, give away stuff I don't use and de-clutter.

But the time is now, and I WILL do it. Promise. Really!

5. Try something different with my hair.

In other news, I'm really bored with my hair.

It's long. Annoying. And I feel like I need something fresh.

I wanted to wait until after my wedding jusssst in case – but now that's done, I can see either a big chop or a new colour coming in hot.

6. Become a lipstick person.

This might kinda lean into number three, but goodness, I think it's time I became a lipstick wearer.

As I've mentioned 500 times before, I've always been a balm girl as opposed to a lipstick girl – but I think I gotta give lipstick more of a chance! Really, I do.

I have many lipsticks and I never wear them – partly because my lips are the size of shoelaces and partly because I use lip balm 75 times a minute. But! These days there are so many next-generation formulas kicking around – you don't really have to worry about your lips feeling dry or everything flaking off in an hour, anymore.

So, yeah, this year I'm going to be a lipstick girl, you guys!

7. Ramp up the facials.

I know, I know. They can be spendy as hell. But they can be so worth it if you do them consistently. I'd been ramping up my skincare game and booking in facial appointments in the lead-up to my wedding (ugh... here she goes again about the wedding thing), and I can honestly say I noticed the biggest difference in my skin.

It was brighter. Less angry. Clearer. Healthier-looking.

I only ever really had facials sporadically, but this has reminded me just how good results can be if you're consistent with it – say, every six weeks. Of course, it all adds up. But this year, she's doing everything she can to look her glowy best!
