'Tell me you work at Mamamia without telling me you work at Mamamia.’

As a writer and podcast co-host at Mamamia, there's not much I don't see.

While it's easily one of the best places I've ever worked, I'd be lying if I didn't admit it is arguably also the... strangest.

Now don't get me wrong, there's no better feeling than working towards the goal of making the world a better place for women and girls. It's not only a statement we live by here at Mamamia, it's what we are already doing every single day.

However, there is an almost indescribable feeling that washes over you when you walk into Mamamia HQ and see the founder, Mia Freedman, spelling out choreography moves for others to follow.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. Let me explain exactly what it's like to work here.

1. An obvious one. The FREE FOOD.

The second best part about working at Mamamia (apart from doing my actual job) is... the food.

This week, the team got to enjoy another round of delicious food from easily favourite catering, Soul Origin. When the all-staff Slack chat sounds that there is grub in the main kitchen hub, people literally come running. And it's no surprise. LOOK how beautiful it is.

Soul Origin has quite the hefty range of delicious and nutritious food that's not only so pretty, but keeps the veggos, vegans and meat-lovers in our office happy.

The platters Soul Origin has are literally so perfect for when we've got the corporate crowds and groups of clients visiting Mamamia but also literally... any gathering. I used them once for birthday party catering outside of work, and it was a (literal) treat. The 36 hour turnaround time is *chef's kiss* for last minute girlies (me).

By way of food bringing people together – I can confirm some of my closest pals at Mamamia were the ones I met over a platter of Soul Origin brownies or those glorious burger sliders.

The only downside is that like our team, you'll be craving their incredible catering boxes until they're in your hands again. Waiting for a Slack message that another one's arrived any day now...

2. People wear suits, blazers and... crocs.

We've discussed what is "work appropriate" in podcasts and our Instagram Stories before, and if I'm being honest, the wardrobe people wear to the office every single day is SO different.

It could be crocs, it may be a three-piece suit and it could even possibly be some variation of pyjamas (read: trackie dacks with what could arguably be a summer sandal or bed slippers). Or y'know, activewear.

And as someone who has worn their aqua crocs to the office before with a matching blazer, let me just tell you, I am totally cool, calm and professionally collected.

3. It's quite possible you will see Mia Freedman wearing three different outfits in a single day. And sometimes all at once.

No two days at Mamamia are the same, especially in Mia's world.

She might be filming her 'Sexy 6' – a weekly video she posts to her Instagram, where she shares the six things she's loving from lady startups and other businesses right now. She could also be choreographing a routine for the Mamamia Out Loud tour. Or maybe she's workshopping a new podcast or penning her latest essay.

Heck, I've even seen her walking around with a fake fringe clipped to her forehead. Most commonly, I've gotten used to her disappearing into her office and walking out with a whole new outfit on. Yup. It's simply brilliant minds doing brilliant things.

It's part and parcel of working at Mamamia at this point.

4. Things are just... lying around.

Sex toys. Beauty products. Costumes. A cat tree (that's mine, sorry). You name it, Mamamia has got it – and we're almost certainly not in short supply.

5. Famous. People. Everywhere.

Mamamia has some of the best conversations with some of the most influential, inspiring and wonderful men and women in the country. Every single day.

Last week, I walked into the office to find Olympian Cate Campbell explaining how a gold medal weighs about the same as a can of baked beans while a wide-eyed staff member looked up at her... with the medal around their neck.

Last month, drag queens from RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under serenaded the office and became our managers for the day.

Of course, it's not every waking moment that you get to rub shoulders with someone you've respected, laughed with or watched on TV for years, but it happens often enough. It's a wonder anyone gets anything done around here. (Only kidding!)

6. There's no conversation that's off-limits at Mamamia

Just like the podcasts and storytelling we put out every single day, our office is filled with brilliant women who are really having all sorts of candid conversations that count.

Whether it's about cuckolding, the other Beckham family or the latest breaking news happening live from across the globe – there's not a single conversation that can't be had at Mamamia

Like I said, it's the strangest job in the world. But that's also why it is one of the absolute very best.
