Princes William and Harry will honour their mother in a beautiful way.

It’s been 20 years since Princess Diana was killed in a limousine in a Paris tunnel, when it crashed carrying her and her lover, Dodi al-Fayed.

She left behind 15-year-old William, and 12-year-old Harry.

But now, Diana’s two sons have decided to honour her at Kensington Palace, commissioning a statue to be erected outside their official London home.

“It has been 20 years since our mother’s death and the time is right to recognise her positive impact in the UK and around the world with a permanent statue,” Prince William said.

"Our mother touched so many lives. We hope the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on her life and her legacy."

The Queen has expressed her support for the decision.

Prince Harry and Prince William have formed a committee, which will raise private funds for the statue, as well as advise the sculptor. Work will begin soon, and it's thought the statue will be completed by the end of the year. It will sit in a public garden at Kensington Palace.

Prince William announced earlier this month that he and his family will move into Kensington Palace, from their home in eastern England.

The plans for the statue come after both Prince William and Prince Harry have started to speak more openly about their mother's death. During a visit to a bereavement centre recently, Prince William said Diana's passing made him "very angry." In July last year, Prince Harry said he didn't talk about his mother's death "for the first 28 years of my life."

Hopefully this statue will go some way towards preserving Princess Diana's invaluable legacy.
