A teen advertises online to rent a family for her birthday.

She offered $8 an hour.

A 19-year-old woman has posted a heartbreaking ad online asking if she could rent a family for her birthday. Natalie Carson from Colorado posted on the website, Craigslist asking if she could rent a family for just one day so she could enjoy her birthday.

7 News Denver showed an image of the ad, which has since been taken down. It reads:

Carson's request is a simple one: "I just want one day to feel important and special, and like I matter even if I really don't."

She explains in her ad that she's never had a good birthday - after ageing out of foster care and being severely abused by her parents. "I figure, why not this birthday."

The ad reads, "I am NOT looking for any monetary support as I also work. I can pay $8 an hour."

Carson was dubious her ad wouldn't be noticed, but the response was overwhelming. She received many offers, the ad went viral and the story was picked up by local news in her home state of Denver.

(Post continues after the video...)

Carson used the opportunity to highlight situation of so many teens in foster care.

It's not unusual for birthday and other celebrations normally associated with family to be difficult for children who are or have been in foster care. "Usually every birthday is really painful and hard," Carson said.

Do you think everyone deserves to feel special for one day of the year?
