CrossFitters have invented "sweat angels". A way to show how hard they work out.

The gym is usually not the place I think of when it comes to taking a selfie. You’re red in the face, hair sticks to your skin, you sweat stains your clothing. It’s not exactly pleasant.

If you, like me, towel down frequently then race to the showers as soon as your workout is over, you may be surprised by the latest trend CrossFit devotees are obsessed with.

It involves doing a rigorous workout, then laying your sweaty back on the floor, taking a photo of the resulting “sweat angel”, then posting it on social media.

In a nutshell, it's basically "sweat bragging".

Much like the snow angel, except much more centred on bodily fluids, CrossFitters are posting photos of their sweat shadows everywhere. On gym equipment, floors, yoga mats - anywhere there's a surface really.

For the uninitiated, CrossFit is a type of workout that is usually located in an industrial space and involves weights, interval training, rope climbing and other high intensity moves. It’s pretty hardcore. So it's unsurprising there's so much, erm, sweat involved.

While we're not game to try our own sweat angel, you have to hand it to CrossFitters for their hard work and strength. (Post continues after gallery.)

While you may dismiss sweat bragging, a key makeup trend emerging on the runways of late is the sweaty, post-workout glow. So maybe CrossFitters are onto something?

Either way, I'll be sticking to my towel down/race to the showers routine.

One CrossFit couple, Iliana and Joe, from Florida, decided that traditional engagement shots aren't their style. Instead, they decided on a location with more significance: their local CrossFit gym, where they spend a lot of time together.
