Qantas will axe 5000 jobs in the next month

Qantas has confirmed their plan to abolish a significant number of jobs throughout March as part of a move for urgent savings. The airline will end 1000 of the 5000 jobs within the year, as part of their plan to cut $2 billion from their national budget over the next three years.

Though the exact number of jobs to go could shift over the next few weeks, a Qantas source says the 5000 figure seems a likely outcome.  Qantas have also confirmed that they'll be selling their terminal at Melbourne Airport in order to show the Abbott Government it's capable of making the hard moves they require to gain federal assistance.
