Man secretly lived in 14 y/o girl’s wardrobe and sexually assaulted her at night.

It’s the stuff of nightmares.

A mother opens her daughter’s closet to find a man living there.

A man who has been sexually abusing her 14-year-old daughter.

Coming out at night to rape her, before retreating back into her closet.

A man in the US state of North Carolina has been charged with 11 counts of statutory rape and five counts of statutory sex offence.

He is now in jail on more than a $1 million bond.

The man, 27-year old Jarred Workman, was discovered hiding in the 14-year-old’s wardrobe on May 2.

“During the day, he was either in her closet or in her bedroom, and when she would come home from school or on the weekend or whatever, he would come out on evenings,” Detective Lt. Bill Hamby told NBC news.

During the five days he lived there from April 27 to May 2, Hamby said the suspect had sex with the teenage girl several times.

They had met online and talked through social media for over a month before arranging to meet. He then sneaked into the girl’s bedroom without her family’s knowledge.

When the girl’s mother saw him in the closet he fled, running through the woods behind their home.

In an act which led to his arrest, he dropped his wallet and phone as he fled. The police tracked him down and arrested him near the border of South Carolina.

Investigators in the case are pleading with parents to be more vigilant about checking their children’s social media accounts.

“For these predators to prey on these children, it’s real frustrating,” Hamby said.

He says parents need to monitor their children’s social media accounts and activities.

“People are really afraid to do that with their kids. But this is an example of why people need to.”

The girls’ mother told WSOC, “The internet has just ruined that poor girl. She was just taken advantage of.”

“I’m uncomfortable in my own home. I’m scared. I can’t sleep at night.”
