UPDATE: The family of the two little girls murdered on Easter Sunday have released a statement describing their devastation at the loss.
“We are utterly devastated at the loss of Savannah and Indianna,” the statement read.
“The girls will be forever missed, loved and never forgotten. We ask that the media please respect our privacy and allow us time to grieve.”
The two girls have been named as four-year-old Savannah and three year-old Indianna.
The man who has been charged with two counts of murder is believed to be their father.

A Melbourne man has been charged with murder in relation to the deaths of two young sisters – who were believed to be just three and four years old.
Emergency services were reportedly called to a home in Watsonia (north east of Melbourne) at around 3pm yesterday. After they arrives, paramedics worked desperately to try and revive the two girls but were unsuccessful.
The 35-year-old man – who is known to the sisters – appeared in a out-of-sessions court hearing at 1am on Monday where he was charged with two counts of murder.
No details are known as to how the girls died or the man knew them.
Speaking to the media yesterday, Assistant Police Commissioner Andrew Crisp said: “It goes without saying this is a tragic set of circumstances that has impacted on the family and there were a number of family members here at the time.”
“It’s first of all impacted on friends, neighbours, and also on members of the fire brigade and the ambulance services and members of Victoria Police that have attended the scene.”
The man will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

The shocking lengths some men will take to wreak vengeance on a former partner. To them, the children are mere tools to wield, not beautiful little human beings.In most of these cases the fathers admit that they did it to hurt their former spouse, as if hurting the children was simply collateral damage. I'll never understand how anyone could do this to any child let alone their own flesh and blood. My deepest sympathies go out to the mother and the rest of the family. No punishment could ever be severe enough; and sadly, this man is likely to be out of prison in less than twenty years if previous cases are anything to go by. I wish I believed in hell, because this man surely deserves to go there. Unfortunately, hell is just a state of existence the poor mother will have to live with for the rest of her life. Poor little babies, RIP.
How does this happen?
Is it because some men view their wives and children as possessions?
I think about this alot. I cant help but to think that this is the basis for most violence against women and children. I own you so you will do as I say. Then the anger. Then the violence.
But why do they view people as possessions? And how do they hide their real selves long enough to have relationships that bear children? Is it obvious? Do some people partner with these men because they expect to be treated as possessions because of their own childhood?
Last month a mother walked free for killing her baby daughter and attempting to kill it's twin.
She used the post natal depression defense. People snap and children pay the price, but only one gender is expected to be held accountable and be reported on and to be held as an example of their entire gender.
Nice conflation of women too, with this being a child's death.
