Your DIY project for summer is here. And it starts with that leftover coffee jar.

If you’re a coffee lover like us, chances are you’ll have drank your way through a whole heaps of glass coffee jars in your lifetime.

You know, like those Moccona jars you keep meaning to turn into something hipster that just end up in the recycle bin (we hope).

But rather than simply tossing them aside, it’s time to start thinking about giving them a new lease on life.

Much-loved by those of us in the DIY community, glass jars are possibly the most versatile of throwaway household items.

They can become literally anything. For a novice crafter, it can be fairly daunting, which is why we’ve come up with three nifty ways to turn your empty Moccona jars into Instagram-worthy home accessories.

Planter Jar

Materials:

• 1x Moccona jar
• Small pebbles
• Potting mix
• 1x succulent
• Masking tape
• Gold spray paint
• Protective gloves

Steps:

1. Make sure your empty Moccona jar is nice and clean.
2. Mask off patterns on the jar using the masking tape.
3. Spray the jar with gold spray paint.
4. Once dry, remove the tape.
5. Fill the base of the jar with pebbles. Cover the pebbles with potting mix.
6. Plant the succulent.

Marble Jar

Materials:

• 1x Moccona jar
• Nail polish in three different colours
• Large aluminium roasting tray
• Water
• Tooth pick

Steps:

1. Make sure your empty Moccona jar is nice and clean.
2. Fill the tray with water.
3. Place drops of nail polish on the surface of the water and use a toothpick to swirl them together.
4. Drip the jar in the water, rotating to make sure all sides are covered.
5. Allow to dry.
6. Fill with your favourite baths salts.

Memory Jar

Materials:

• 1x Moccona jar
• Twine
• Hot glue gun
• Masking tape
• Gold spray paint
• Photos
• Scissors
• Pliers
• Pebbles
• Keepsakes (crystals, jewellery, chains, charms)

Steps:

1. Make sure your empty Moccona jar is nice and clean.
2. Wind the twine around the base of the jar, securing every wind with a dab of hot glue.
3. Repeat around the top of the jar and on the lid.
4. Mask off the glass.
5. Spray paint the twine.
6. Remove the masking tape.
7. Using pliers, poke a small hole into the bottom of the jar lid.
8. Push the chain and charm into each hole.
9. Place the photo you want to feature in the jar.
10. Add any trinkets and keepsakes into the jar.
11. Carefully place lid on top of the jar.
