Heidi Klum reveals what she's going to wear for Halloween

If there's one person who knows how to do Halloween, it's Heidi Klum!

The Project Runway host is known for her flamboyant costumes, ranging from creepy to silly to downright gorgeous. This year, she'll be hitting the Halloween parties dressed as Cleopatra — and she's giving us a behind-the-scenes look at how her costume came together.

Watch the video below!

Not surprisingly, Klum's costume-planning process is a little more involved than a trip to a costime shop. Months before the actual holiday, she sits down with high-end costume and prop designer Martin Izquierdo to sketch out her Halloween vision. For Cleopatra, she was thinking "big, gold, glittering" — including a mask of inlaid Swarovski crystals, an enormous headpiece and giant gold wings. (Fortunately, Izquierdo is famous for his wings; he's the mastermind behind the Victoria's Secret "angels.")

In the video, the designer warns Klum that one of her ideas, a gown made entirely of gold scales, would end up weighing around 140 pounds! She scales back in time for the first fitting in September, and by the time the ensemble is ready for its first photo shoot, it is downright spectacular. (Though we won't get to see the full effect until October 31.)

This will be Klum's first Halloween in eight years without Seal, from whom she separated in January. The couple usually celebrated the holiday with coordinated costumes: a pair of wacky chimpanzees in 2011, futuristic superheroes in 2010, an elaborate pair of crows in 2009. But Heidi's solo costumes over the years have been no less spectacular. Last year, she went as a skinless dead body to one Halloween event. She's also trick-or-treated as Lady Godiva (on a real horse), the eight-armed Hindu goddess Kali, and Eve's apple (a costume designed specifically to accommodate her pregnant belly).

Klum has also hosted a Halloween bash for the past 13 years, and she won't let her divorce proceedings get in the way: This year's party will take place at the new Finale nightclub in New York City, with Questlove as the deejay. She hasn't revealed whether her bodyguard boyfriend Martin Kirsten will make an appearance. Maybe he'll go as Mark Antony?
