Group Therapy: I don't know how to apply for Paid Parental Leave!

Each week we'll be bringing you a 'group therapy' or issue one of our readers is experiencing, if you have any advice please share it below in the comments. This week Imogen needs your maternity leave advice. If you have a group therapy you would like to share please email Nicky on nicky@ivillage.com.au

I used to think I was a fairly smart and well-educated person, that was, until I tried to find out how to apply for the government’s Paid Parental Leave scheme online. It doesn’t even help that I already have one child!

At my last job, the HR department made it really simple for me by handing me a form to sign and they pretty much took care of the rest. Fast forward three years and now I work for a small family business who haven’t had any pregnant staff on their books before.

I’ve lined up in my lunch break at the Medicare office, only to be told I need to go to the Family Assistance office, who then said I can only fill it out online. Which now seems to be through Centrelink, which I have registered for but I still can't figure it out – am I even in the right section? I’m seven months pregnant, I work full-time and I’m just so exhausted by it all, I’m almost giving up on the idea! Has anyone else experienced this much trouble?

If anyone can help me I would be so, so grateful.

Thanks,
Imogen
