Is George tying the knot at this very famous house? Look, we hope so.

It looks like when George decides he is finally getting married, he’s not cutting any corners…

We may never see George Clooney join the cast of Downton Abbey, but if reports today are correct, the actor is considering holding his wedding there.

The Gravity star, 53, became engaged to 36-year-old lawyer and activist Amal Alamuddin earlier this year, and the couple is reportedly hoping to marry in September. So they’ve probably got wedding venues on the mind.

According to the Daily Mail, George flew to England last week to spend some time with his London-based fiance in the countryside, including the village of Highclere where Downton Abbey is set.

George and Amal

Through his friend Hugh Bonneville - who plays Lord Robert Crawley on the show - George arranged a private tour of the Highclere Castle for Amal, who was "blown away" by the grandeur of it all. So blown away, in fact, that George apparently started getting ideas about a Berkshire wedding.

"When he saw his bride-to-be’s reaction to the spectacular Victorian castle, set on 1,000 acres of parkland, he began making some discrete  inquires about having their wedding performed there," a 'source' tells the website.

"George loves the idea of marrying at the castle, because it’s a glamorous place he could secure."

Sections of the castle, currently the home of the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon and their family, can be rented for upwards of $23,000 for a night.

Of course, none of this has been confirmed by the couple, so it's all speculation for the time being.

However, it's not too much of a stretch to imagine an exclusive wedding being held at Highclere Castle - after all, we all swooned as Lady Mary descended that famous staircase in her bridal gown:

Besides, it's fitting that a Hollywood royal like George should hold his wedding at the home of Lords and Ladies.
