These leggings are on sale and we have some pressing questions.

Look.

Look.

LOOK.

While you were busy living your life, the Internet discovered some leggings that nobody understands. Except maybe one person but before we get to her, let's take a good look at this item of clothing that you can buy in an actual shop. A shop owned by an A-list celebrity.

They're called the "Spotlight Shaping Ass Out Capri" and let's do this:

Workout gear or festival chaps? You decide. Image: Fabletics.

The Spotlight Shaping Ass Out Capri are part of the Yitty Collection a clothing line designed by LIzzo and sold through Kate Hudson's activewear store, Fabletics, which is where these images appear.

According to Fabletics, the description reads:

"Ready to go viral? Made famous by Lizzo, this statement legging has a chap-style silhouette. It's made in shimmery-soft lurex and features a breathable mesh interior. Read: supportive and flattering, all-around compression. Spotlights on you, bitch. Features: medium compression shapes and firms; shimmery super-stretchy lurex fabric."

Images of the Ass Out Capri leggings were posted on social this week and as you may imagine, the Internet has questions. We have questions. Do you have questions?

Here are some of the questions:

1. Why?

2. But no, why?

3. Seriously though, why?

4. Why is the model wearing high heels? Where could she be going in her Ass-Out Capris? A party? University? To her place of employment?

5. If she is going to wear them to exercise, won't this be impractical if she is doing, say a yoga class or some burpees at bootcamp?

6. Also, why?

To help answer some of these pressing questions, we decided to look at the reviews for the Spotlight Shaping Ass Out Capris on the Fabletica website and the good news is that they have an average of 4.3 stars out of a possible five stars which is very promising start.

The first two reviews (out of 22) are also very encouraging:

These women be loving their Spotlight Shaping Ass Out Capris although not nearly as much as the third reviewer:

It's not often you see the word "hysterectomy" in a review for leggings but we're not in Kansas anymore, Toto. The rest of the reviews are similarly effusive although one buyer was disappointed to learn that the matching g-string wasn't included with the leggings and so now she doesn't know what to do although on the upside, it means she can go to the toilet really fast in an emergency.

Maybe they are meant to be worn under clothes? Maybe they're shapewear? Great point and maybe they are except that's not how Lizzo herself wears them and who would ever argue with the Queen, not us because Lizzo is genuinely perfect.

Here are some more happy customers:

How much do they cost, you want to know because you are currently overwhelmed with ideas for all the places you could wear them. A job interview. A nightclub. The beach (remember the sunscreen to avoid tan lines!). Church. The shops. A fun run. While giving birth. Your son's wedding.

Well, the great news is that they are currently on sale. While the way Fabletics works is deeply confusing (something about being a member and getting subscriptions and then you get two pairs something something), from what we can gather, the Spotlight Shaping Ass Out Capri used to be US$84.95 and now they are only US$24.95 which is just $35.50.

But if you're a Fabletics member, you get two pairs for the same price which means you can give one to your mum.

So what have we learned today? Well, the best thing about being a woman is that in most countries, public nudity laws permitting, you can wear whatever you want. And according to the Fabletics site, there are at least 22 women who wanted to wear these leggings and they all seem to be pleased with their purchase on a scale of moderate to "best sex of my life".

Also? Anything LIzzo does is transgressive and interesting and she pushes boundaries with her own body and her clothes in a way very few artists do so that's always something to celebrate, bare arse or not.
