ROADTEST: The cult serum I've used for over 10 years has launched a supercharged eye version.

If you're even remotely into skincare I'd bet a big chunk of money that you've heard of the cult serum, Advanced Night Repair. It's made by Estée Lauder, and has bonafide holy grail status.

Why? Because it's really, really good. It has been around for as long as I've been alive, 40 years. It first launched with just the name Night Repair, and while it has been reformulated and improved many times over the decades, one common thread continued to ring true –  skin feels amazing and looks super glowy in the morning when you've swiped it on the night before.

But I'm not here to talk to you about the infamous ANR. I want to fill you in on one of its siblings instead, the Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Gel-Creme. Sound familiar? That's because this product already exists too, but it's just had a little glow-up and been improved upon (more on that later!) as well as being upgraded to new, more sustainable packaging, which is brilliant.

I was particularly keen to trial this product because of the claims on how it treats dark circles. I have a toddler, a sick family member, a demanding job, and 683 responsibilities pulling me in various directions every day. I mean, who doesn't?! And guess which part of my life suffers because of it? Sleep.

I recall this time last year when we were in lockdown and didn't have a thing in our calendars for months, and now somehow I've lost grip of maintaining the balance and my busy schedule is, well, really busy. I've never been a good sleeper but at the moment because I can't switch off, it’s pretty bad. I know an eye cream can't give me all the benefits of a full eight hours, but if it can still help my eye area look more well rested than I am in reality, I'll take that small win.

So what's in the tiny brown pot, I hear you ask? Some pretty high performance technology, actually. There's something called tripeptide-32, which is an exclusive peptide to Estée Lauder that promotes the natural synchronisation of our skin's natural circadian rhythm, in which skin protects itself by day and repairs itself by night. Nifty, huh?

There's also up to 100 hours of hydration from the hydration hero, Sodium Hyaluronat, AKA Hyaluronic Acid, a ferment that is a powerful moisture magnet. And when our eye area is moisturised, it appears so much fresher and more youthful.

All sounds pretty fancy, but how does it wear? That's truly the most important thing to me when it comes to an eye cream. Reason being is I find they rarely do anything at all, or are too thick or oily and travel into my eyes and make them sting, or pill under skincare and makeup, meaning I can only use them at night. No thanks.

Good news is this guy is none of the above. This formula is a beautiful gel cream texture, almost like a hybrid. It's super lightweight and absorbs really quickly, making the area feel hydrated but not at all greasy. My makeup went on top like a dream, and because it added moisture to the area, my base did not settle into the fine lines around my outer eye area.

At night it was a no-brainer – I tap it on with my ring finger first after cleaning, followed by the serum and then a richer night cream to lock it all in.

I've been using it for about three weeks now as I write this, and my eye area definitely looks brighter, and has a luminosity to it that wasn't there before. My dark circles appeared to be faded, or less evident. I’m not the only one who thought that, either.

In clinical studies (meaning the results had to be proven!) 89 per cent of women who road-tested this eye cream agreed that their initial signs of ageing appear diminished around the eye area, and 92 per cent said their tired eyes looked more rested and less fatigued. Impressive, huh?

It's formulated to target dark circles in all locations – under eye, upper eye, inner corner, outer corner and all around, and clinically tested and shown to target a blend of blue/purple and brown circles. It also works to reduce puffiness, too, which I sometimes get if I'm busy and stressed and grab salty takeaway late at night. Hey, I'm human.

Overall, it's a brilliant and beautiful product to use. It feels luxe, fits in with my busy schedule (it absorbs quickly and I can use it both morning and night), and I really think I look better for using it. And that's what it's all about, right?
