Her name was Emily Thompson. She was 18 when she was allegedly murdered by her ex boyfriend.

Warning: This post deals with murder and violence and may be triggering for some readers.

Emily Thompson was just about to start her Year 12 exams.

She had been excitedly counting down to her end-of-year formal. She had picked out a beautiful dress and couldn't wait to arrive in a vintage car driven by her Pa.

Emily was busy planning the next stage of her life. She was only 18.

But on Saturday, October 22, 2022, she was allegedly murdered by her ex-boyfriend.

Police allege she met with her ex, 19-year-old Aaron Daniel Mitchelson Huckel, at a carpark off Bells Pocket Road at Strathpine in Queensland, at around 4:30pm Saturday afternoon.

It's alleged they had only recently broken up.

Her family contacted police at about 7pm when she didn't return, with Huckel arrested at a service station 80km away in Nambour at 8:30pm that night and charged with one count each of murder and misconduct with a corpse.

Emily's body was found in bushland near the service station at about 3am Sunday morning.

"It's a tragic event, the young lady is 18 years of age, she had her whole life ahead of her," said Detective Inspector Ben Fadian.

"This is a good young lady… and this has happened to her. It's a tragedy. The family of the young lady have been advised and as you would appreciate, they are devastated," he said.

Huckel faced court on Monday where no application for bail was made. He will appear again on October 31.

Police confirmed there were no domestic violence orders in place and there was no history of either Emily or Huckel contacting police 'about anything of that nature'.

"At this stage we have no evidence that there are any other parties involved in this," said Detective Inspector Fadian.

As Emily's family are left to grapple with her death, a GoFundMe set up to provide financial support to them reads: "Emily was taken from the family in the worst of circumstances."

"Emily was a smart, kind-hearted and loving girl. It was never about Emily, it was always about her family and friends. Her family is devastated and in shock trying to comprehend how their lives will be without their Emily," it continues.

Like most 18-year-olds the teenager shared her life online, posting a final mirror selfie just 24 hours before her death.

Her other snaps include celebrations from her recent birthday party in early October, where she shared smiling photos with her friends under the caption "loves of my life."

Her high school described her as an 'enthusiastic, high-achieving and friendly student who will be greatly missed by her friends and teachers', reports The Daily Mail.

Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll said her death was an “absolute tragedy”.

"I have an 18-year-old daughter, exactly the same age, I cannot imagine what they are going through," she said.

As police continue their investigation, they're seeking any witnesses who saw a white 2016 Ford Mustang or blue 2012 Mazda 3 near the Rob Ackers Sports Reserve, Strathpine, between 4pm and 6pm on Saturday.

Police are also looking for anyone who saw a white 2016 Ford Mustang on Park Road, Nambour, between 6pm and 8.30pm.

Emily is the 38th woman allegedly murdered in Australia in 2022, according to a tally kept by Destroy the Joint.

She was only 18.
