A Melbourne woman, 32, died when her car rolled backwards down the driveway of her Cragieburn home and ran her over this afternoon.
Channel 7 reports she had gotten out of the car to investigate if she’d hit a water meter while reversing.
It is believed she failed to put the car into the “park” position before leaving the driver’s seat.
Both her children, a seven-year-old son and a four-year-old daughter, were in the car when the incident occurred.
Neither of them were harmed and the eldest reportedly ran from the car to call Triple-zero and also his father, who was at work at the time.
A neighbour came out to help after she heard the children screaming, but the woman died at the scene.
"This is a bad day out for everybody," Sergeant Dean Pickering told the media.
"We have got young kids involved, we have got young family members. We are all in the same boat - we have young kids and young family members too."
Police are in the process of preparing a report for the coroner.
