Cyclone Ita will ‘wipe out’ Cooktown

Queensland is facing a natural disaster with Cyclone Ita about to bear down on the state as category 5 storm.  The powerful cyclone is now being compared to Typhoon Haiyan which destroyed areas of the Philippines and south-east Asia last year, killing thousands. Ita is expected to hit the coast at 5pm today, however strong 300km/h winds have already begun lashing the state. Warnings are currently issued from Lockhart River to Innisfail, including Port Douglas, Cooktown and Cairns. Cooktown mayor, Peter Scott, said in a briefing this morning that “Cooktown as we know it today will not be the same tomorrow.” Residents have already been warned that flying debris will become a deadly risk.

Abbott confident 'We've found the black box'.

Tony Abbott has announced that they've finally zoned in on what they believe is the black box belonging to Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. Rescue teams are reportedly only 'several' kilometres away from what they're confident are the black box flight recorders . Prime Minister Tony Abbott has said that it's a race against time to find the box because the signal has already begun to fade. Mr Abbott will be meeting personally with Chinese President Xi Jinping this afternoon in Beijing to discuss their latest findings and what they believe to be the location of the black box. "We have very much narrowed down the search area...we have now had a series of detections, some for quite a long period of time. We are hoping to get as much information as we can before the signals finally expire," said Mr Abbott.

Child bride poisons her husband and his friends.

A 14-year-old child bride forced into marrying a 35-year-old groom has poisoned her husband and his friends with rat poison, according to Nigerian police. Wasila Umaru confessed to police that she had put rat poison in their food because she forced to marry someone she was not in love with last week. The groom had invited his friends over to their home to celebrate the marriage last weekend when Umaru poisoned the group. Musa Magaji Majia, an assistant police superintendent, has said that the teen girl has been cooperating with police and will most likely be charged with culpable homicide.

Heartbleed bug is out to steal your data.

A computer bug named the "Heartbleed bug" has hit computers worldwide  and left 66% of sites open to attacks by hackers. Websites affected include Google, Facebook, Yahoo and many others. Anyone using these sites has been urged to change their passwords in order to prevent data such as passwords and banking details being stolen. Renowned security ecpert, Bruce Schneier, said on Wednesday: " “Heartbleed is a catastrophic bug . . . on a scale of one to 10, it is an 11.”

Lennon fan to 'clone' him and make a baby.

A Canadian dentist who purchased John Lennon's tooth at an auction has made plans to use the tooth to clone a baby. Dr Michael Zuk mentioned his plans in an episode of British show Dead Famous DNA and explained that he will use the dead Beatles DNA to create the child. Zuk bought the tooth for $33,000 three years ago and wants to raise the baby. "If there is enough DNA to sequence it, it could be basically genetic real estate. My goal is to own John Lennon's DNA. He would still be his exact duplicate but you know, hopefully keep him away from drugs and cigarettes, that kind of thing. But you know, guitar lessons wouldn't hurt anyone right?"

 Anne Hathaway's hidden talent.

Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway has proved that she really can sing and her performance in Les Miserables was no voice-dubbing act, taking to screens across the US on Tuesday night on Jimmy Fallon's live show. Hathaway and Fallon performed with gusto popular rap songs as a Broadway-style melody. The pair begin with a jazzed up version of Snoop Dogg's Gin and Juice and it's all uphill from there.
