Stan’s Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin features an all-star cast and a return to your favourite franchise.

Aca-scuse me, but I have some really exciting news.

It's been a few years since our last a cappella fix with beloved film trilogy Pitch Perfect, but all the fun, the humour, and of course, the music numbers, that you want from the franchise is returning, with new Stan series Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin.

As the title suggests, the spin-off show sees fan favourite Adam Devine reprise his role as Bumper Allen, the former leader of The Treblemakers (and former John Mayer back-up singer), several years after his last appearance in the films.

In the early moments of Bumper in Berlin, we meet a down-on-his-luck Bumper who's still 'stuck' in the same place we left him: trying (and failing) to make his dreams happen at Barden University.

Luckily, he soon receives a phone call that reveals one of his songs has become a hit in Germany, and so he decides to move halfway around the world to revive his music career.

In Berlin, he links up with another familiar face - Pitch Perfect 2's Pieter Krämer, played by Flula Borg - who has pivoted into music management and wants to turn Bumper into a bona fide superstar.

Through Pieter he also meets his assistant Heidi, played by the very talented Sarah Hyland, who harbours secret musical dreams of her own.

Rounding out the cast is Lera Abova as Pieter's much cooler sister Thea, and Jameela Jamil as the hilarious main antagonist, pop star Gisela.

Fans of the film will be unsurprised to learn that Bumper's ultimate goal is to become famous.

To achieve this, he and his team hatch a plan to perform a hit single at the major German Unity Day celebration - but it's not exactly smooth sailing.

From booing crowds to waning confidence, this six-episode journey becomes less about fame and more about Bumper growing into the artist and person he's always wanted to be - with some romance, riff-offs and mishaps along the way.

If the Pitch Perfect films left you thinking Bumper was arrogant and self-centred, well, you weren't wrong, but in Bumper in Berlin, he gets the redemption he deserves.

Devine's comedic timing is the true star of the show, but he also plays Bumper with a level of self-awareness and vulnerability that will have you rooting from him from the very beginning.

He and Hyland also share fantastic, easy chemistry, likely helped by their work together on Modern Family.

Hyland, by the way, is a revelation in this role - which showcases her incredible vocal and dance talents on screen in a major way for the first time.

The cast's performances come together to create a funny, sometimes absurd, but always incredibly joyful and wholesome watch.

Bumper in Berlin can absolutely stand on its own as a fun six-part series, but what makes it all the more enjoyable are its links to the Pitch Perfect films, which run far deeper than just the title and character origin.

The show was developed by Megan Amram and Elizabeth Banks, who also executive produces. Banks also starred in, and produced all three films in the trilogy, plus directed Pitch Perfect 2.

Max Handelman, Paul Brooks, Scott Neimeyer, Amram and Devine also serve as additional executive producers, with Handelman and Brooks previously also producing the films.

All of this means there is a warm familiarity in the show's tone and humour, as well as in its musical numbers - which range from a Taylor Swift banger to a truly hilarious melody of German and American classics.

There's an original song 'Know My Name', penned by OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder, threaded throughout the six episodes and I promise it will worm its way into your head in the best way.

Plus, there are plenty of Pitch Perfect Easter eggs to look out for.

Add Bumper in Berlin to your watch list, and aca-enjoy.
