New look to consider: short and wispy hair.

Virginia Trioli is one of our favourite women on morning television. The ABC Breakfast co-host has spunk, smarts and all round character.

She also has very good hair. Those wispy ends, that volume. We’re sold.

Radio host Amanda Keller rocks a similar look.

We’ve found ourselves a little inspired, so we decided to ask the hair experts what we need to know about this seemingly-easiest of styles.

Hair stylist Justin Calverley, from Edwards and Co in Sydney and Melbourne, says thicker hair responds best to a textured bob.

"A textured bob will suite most hair types, but is best cut on thicker hair - it lends itself to removing unwanted bulk and creating wispy, unstructured ends. Hair type should not be too curly and frizzy, or too fine and thinning," he told Debrief Daily.

Lateline presenter, Emma Alberici.

"It will soften hard contours on the face and is ideal for adding volume if your hair is flat and heavy."

But the style won't suit every face shape.

"This haircut is the perfect for the oval face shape and strong square jawlines as it will minimise horizontal width. It's not recommended for the heart-shaped face," Justin said.

The short and shaggy is easy to maintain: you could probably even get away with the 'wash and wear' trick.

"This haircut is easy to maintain and to style at home. It will even look great days after washing with a messy ‘bedhead’ feel," Justin said.

"Blow dry the root area in all directions with a volumising spay and paddle brush ensuring the ends are turned up. Finish off with a texture paste and a light mist of hairspray."

And as for glamming it up ...

"The style can be easily transformed by tucking the sides behind the ear for a slick neater and more structured look ideal for a formal dinner or night out."

Sounds pretty good to us.
