Alex McKinnon expected to sue NRL, Storm player over career-ending tackle.

Lawyers representing former Newcastle Knights player Alex McKinnon have written to the NRL, amid reports the paralysed player is planning a multi-million-dollar lawsuit against the league.

McKinnon was left paralysed after he was on the receiving end of a lifting tackle from Storm prop Jordan McLean.

The NRL confirmed it had received a letter from McKinnon’s legal team, but said a claim had not been lodged.

It follows newspaper reports that McKinnon is seeking compensation from the league and McLean.

McKinnon has previously said that he was considering legal action in order to cover his medical expenses.

McLean was suspended for seven weeks over the incident.

McKinnon received a maximum $500,000 compensation payout from the NRL following his injury.

However, the incident threw questions over the suitability of the NRL’s player insurance policy and about $1.2 million was raised towards McKinnon’s medical costs.
