92-year-old woman becomes mum to a 76-year-old.

“I wanted her to be mine… And she is!”

Someone pass the tissues because this has got to be the sweetest thing we’ve seen all week.

At the age of 92, Murial Clayton has just become a mum once again, after officially adopting her 76-year-old cousin, Mary Smith.

When Smith was 11, she suffered a family tragedy that left her with no where to go.”Her father passed away and her mother was ill,” Clayton told WFAA , “so she was not able to take care of Mary.”

Hello Giggles reports, Clayton, then 27, took Smith in as one of her own, and has looked after her for over six decades. Clayton’s affection for her cousin grew, “she was just a great kid,” she told WFAA. The pair developed a beautiful bond and Clayton wanted very much to make their relationship official, but out of respect was apprehensive about doing so while Smith’s biological mother was still alive.

This year, the day before Mother’s Day, Smith visited Clayton at her home in Dallas where the 92-year-old finally revealed how she’d been feeling. “I said, ‘I have been thinking about adopting you, what do you think about that?’” Clayton told WFAA. “And her little face just lit up!”

“That was exciting news,” said Smith, equally as thrilled at the prospect.

They have shared a life together, and on the 9th of June, the pair headed over to the Dallas courthouse to officially become what they had been in their hearts for over 60 years- mother and daughter.

It is clear Clayton is beside herself at having her family ‘puzzle’ finally put together: “I have worked jigsaw puzzles, and my life had been a beautiful picture,” she said. “But one piece was missing, and that was Mary. And now I’ve got that piece in place. Officially!”
