Global warming is such a huge problem, there’s no point in doing anything because how can we make a difference? Natalie Isaacs is one of many people who think that is a load of CO2.
The Australian mother of four, founded the 1 Million Women campaign in 2009 with Climate Coolers, a non profit women’s organisation. It is a campaign of daughters, mothers, sisters and grandmothers who are committed to protecting our climate, our communities and our future.
Their goal, according to their website is:
“… to inspire 1 million Australian women to take practical action on climate change by cutting 1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2), the main greenhouse pollutant causing global warming. Every woman who joins has a personal goal to cut 1 tonne of CO2 from their daily lives within a year of joining the campaign.”
1 Million Women uses the power of social, community and professional networks to spread the word about climate change and empower women to participate. As you can tell by the name their basic premise is to get 1 million women to join their program. Once you join you make a pledge to cut 1 tonne of CO2 and you actually get guided through ways to achieve this and track your progress as you go along. Simple as. Oh and as a side benefit you get to save the world.
After hearing about it from one of the 1 million Women ambassadors, Sam Mostyn when we were on a business trip together recently, I was so inspired by the idea of 1 Million Women that I sought out Natalie Isaacs – Co-founder and CEO of Climate Coolers for this interview:

How green are you? Will you be implementing any of Natalie’s eco tips?

I'm all for it, cannot BEAR to throw out food. I spent a lot of time with my grandparents when I was little and heard lots about the wartime in Scotland, rationing and kitchen-gardens etc They knew hunger and knew the value of money and food and I want to honour that - and help make the world O-ish for the kids.
So... the compost, check, the green power, check... need some chooks next..
Earth hour is coming up in March, that's a simple thing most people can participate in.
I signed up for 1 Million Women ages ago and since then we've got solar hot water and soon to get solar power. I also want to get more water tanks put in.
Another thing we (and lot's of the locals) do is buy fruit and veg from local markets (less k's for the veg to travel).
Regardless of climate change being real or trumped up, I don't think there is any harm treading as lightly as possible on the earth.
