How influencers like Sophie Cachia are expertly side-stepping their detractors.

Scrolling through influencer Sophie Cachia’s Instagram posts, we noticed something rather interesting.

All of the comments on her photos are incredibly positive, which on the one hand, you go girl, but in this age of internet trolls and cyberbullying, we couldn’t help but wonder… how?

How the hell did she manage to side-step every person and their cousin’s aunt who posts negative comments just for the sake of being, well, negative?

Well, it turns out Sophie – and we’re going to guess some other high profile people on Instagram – have simply decided not to give these trolls any more oxygen.

In a clever move, they are now controlling who can comment on their posts, despite having public profiles.

In Sophie's case, she's restricted comments to people who she follows and who follow her back.

"I use Instagram's setting that only allows people that I follow to write on my photos if they wish," Sophie tells Mamamia.

"It's mainly family and friends who now engage with me on my pics, and I like it. It keeps it simple.

"Maybe one day I'll turn my comments back on, not sure. I don't really think about it too much."

By only allowing her inner circle to comment on her posts, all the comments are positive - as they should be on everybody's posts.

Quite simply, haters can go and hate somewhere else.

"At the moment, I have control over my own channel, and so I should," she says.

"I just post a pic I like and move on with my day now, instead of trawling through thousands of comments from strangers."

It's been a long time coming for the social media star, who received abuse after posting a video of herself in a bikini back in April.

As reported by Mamamia at the time, Sophie called out the trolls by posting screenshots of their negative comments on her Instagram Story.

"I never engage with trolls or critics like that anymore but at the end of the day, I just want to say I will never ever ever apologise for being a confident woman who is happy in her own skin and none of you should," she said at the time.

Kudos to Sophie for taking back control of her social media, and remember, if you don't have anything nice to say, maybe just don't say anything at all.

We could all use some more positivity in our lives.

Seems like a bit of an ego trip. It's one thing to block trolls and people making nasty, snarky comments. But there's a difference between 'haters' and people who simply disagree with your point of view. Still, as Guest has commented below, it probably looks good to the brands you advertise to have nothing but people telling you how wonderful you are.

The whole "influencer" thing is an ego trip. Not surprising they seek an echo chamber environment, wherein they can establish and maintain the false impression that their crap doesn't stink.
