The "blunt" request from a New Zealand mum that saw Meghan and Harry break royal protocol.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle broke royal protocol by posing for a selfie with two 10-year-old New Zealand girls, Sophie Hubbard and Hope Watson on Sunday.

What incredible act warranted such a break in rules, you ask? Well, one of their mums asked.

Sophie, Hope and Jan Richardson – who was the girls’ guardian for the day – had been waiting very patiently in the crowd at Wellington’s National War Memorial for nine hours when the royal couple walked by.

Jan told The Sun at that point she “got blunt”.

“Meghan started to talk to them and I thought I’m just going to ask,” she said.

“We’ve been here since eight o’clock. There was a contemplation about staying overnight for the fun of it.

“I just asked ‘can I get a photo, can I get a photo?’ and Harry said ‘Yeah, sure!’

Only a few months ago, Meghan had to turn down a woman who asked for a photo, telling her the royal family is “not allowed to do selfies”.

This isn’t the first time the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have broken their family’s royal rules during their 16-day tour of Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand.

Prince Harry was just as won over as the rest of the world by five-year-old Luke Vincent when the Dubbo boy went in for a beard scratch and a cuddle from the 34-year-old.

Harry’s also embraced a Melbourne teen India Brown outside Victoria’s Government House after spotting her sign: “Been here since 4am, loved you since I was 8.”

The couple is in New Zealand for the final leg of their tour, which concludes in Rotorua on Wednesday.

I think Royal protocol should consider the circumstances . In this episode I think it was so lovely for the children to have a photo with Harry and Megan. There were no security risks. If the press can take photographs then what have they done wrong ?!?!?!?!
Come on , we are in the 21st century !!!

Harry and Meghan will soon regret that decision, because once you start, how do you then say to the next person?
