The royal Christmas tradition Prince Harry will skip this year, at Meghan Markle's request.

Meghan Markle has apparently asked Prince Harry to skip the royal’s Boxing Day tradition.

According to the Mirror, Harry will give the annual Boxing Day pheasant shoot a miss as Meghan is an avid animal-lover who is strongly against blood sports.

And of course, because absolutely everything the couple do at the moment is down to the supposed ‘royal feud’, the Mirror quoted a source as saying this decision has widened the rift between Harry and his older brother Prince William.

“In his mind, William sees this as another concerning example of his younger brother being pulled away from his family by his new wife.

“Harry’s always loved hunting and it has provided them with a great chance to bond as brothers.

“But now it looks like Harry’s shooting days are over. It’s the latest point of contention between the Princes after a testing time in their relationship.”

Kensington Palace has apparently denied this – the Telegraph reported a “well-placed” palace source called the claims “completely untrue”.

It's the second year in a row Harry will not make an appearance at the royal Boxing Day tradition, as he also decided against taking part in last year's shoot.

In September, Harry did not take part in the traditional royal grouse hunt during the family's summer holiday at Scotland's Balmoral Castle, apparently also to avoid upsetting Meghan.

He had been joining the Boxing Day hunt since he was 12.

Didn't Meghan and Harry roast a chicken on the night they got engaged? They do realise said chicken was killed in order for that romantic gesture to occur, right...?

Was it hunted for pleasure, though?

Difference between sending to an abattoir after a lifetime in caged misery and shooting out of the sky in the wild is what, exactly? It ends up being the same thing: dinner. I'm pretty sure all of Meghan's shoes and expensive handbags aren't made of pleather, either.

I'm talking about the attitude of the consumer to the animal. If I eat meat, I take no pleasure in the misery of the animal's life or death, but am grateful for the energy and strength it gives my body. The sport of hunting centres on satisfaction and pleasure derived from hitting a live target and causing its death. The difference may not save an animal, but to me it is still significant.

Is there any evidence that he’s skipping the event “at Meghan’s request”? Or is it also possible that he knows his wife objects to hunting, and decided *on his own* that he wouldn’t shoot? I’m getting pretty tired of all these stories that portray Meghan as the controlling, manipulative wife and Harry as the poor sap with no say in his own life.

yes and "to avoid upsetting Meghan" as opposed to "out of respect for Meghan"

Well of course. She’s the nagging, overbearing shrew, and he’s the hapless henpecked husband, with no say in his own life!

Apparently he attended a boar hunt last year and she was upset or some such story. Even so, she knew Harry liked hunting, grouse shooting etc when she married him, so why would she object to him participating in his hobbies?

And he knew she was against hunting. Perhaps he’s come around to her way of thinking?
