Depending on your age, music tastes and preference for reality television, there’s one of two women you likely think of when you hear the name ‘Kylie’.
One is Kylie Minogue, Australia’s pop princess, and the other, Kylie Jenner, the 21-year-old billionaire makeup mogul and the younger sister of the Kardashian clan.
However, in 2017, the then 18-year-old Kylie Jenner attempted to trademark her name in the fields of entertainment, fashion and pop culture – a move Minogue’s lawyers prevented her from doing.
The 50-year-old’s legal team sent the US Patent and Trademark Office a letter which called Jenner a “a secondary reality television personality,” compared to Minogue’s credentials as an “internationally-renowned performing artist, humanitarian and breast cancer activist known to the world simply as Kylie”.
The US Patent and Trademark Office sided with Minogue.
Now appearing on tonight’s episode of The Project, the 50-year-old pop star shares with Lisa Wilkinson the details of her trademark battle.
When Wilkinson asks her about the description of Jenner as a “secondary reality TV personality,” Minogue appears mortified.
“I know, and I was so upset when I heard that,” she said. “I said, ‘Who said what to Kylie?’”
Despite this, Minogue said the term wasn’t used personally, it was just “lawyer speak”. The performer was adamant that everything remains respectful with Jenner.
“I just thought, ‘Oh here we go, this is a bother’ — I didn’t want there to be any [trouble] about it,” said Minogue.
“Everything was taken care of, very nicely I have to say.”

Since when is pointing out the truth brutal? Jenner is a second rate reality tv person. If her sister hadn’t been pee’d on by some sporting dude and video tapped it all those years ago, the Kardashians and Jenners would be nothing more than burger flippers and in and out burger. Trying to make Kylie feel bad for the true statement her lawyers made in their correspondence is ridiculous.
The only person in the wrong is the talentless Jenner who thought she could disregard Kylie Minogue and attempt to patent the name Kylie. It’s about time someone put one of the members of that horrible family back in their place, everyone else seems to suck up their overly pumped up asses.
