New details emerge about Kanye West's hospital admission as the emergency call is released.

Just hours after cancelling the rest of his tour dates across the US, and a day after he cut a performance short after ranting about everything from Beyoncé to Hillary Clinton, rapper Kanye West was rushed to hospital.

Now, new details have emerged about exactly what happened when The Life of Pablo rapper was admitted to UCLA Medical Centre on Monday afternoon.

Original reports claimed West was suffering from "exhaustion and sleep deprivation" after months of touring, fatherhood and working on his fashion line, prompting someone at the home of his personal trainer, Harley Pasternak, to call 911 at approximately 1:20pm.

A recording obtained by TMZ from the Fire Department dispatch referred to the incident as a "psychiatric emergency".

Kanye was identified as suffering "from temporary psychosis due to sleep deprivation and dehydration", the publication reports.

While reports did suggest that West was hostile and tried to refuse medical help, a source close to the rapper told E! News that the rapper "voluntarily went to the hospital" and was "compliant" with emergency staff.

Unconfirmed reports claim that West - who has been married to reality star Kim Kardashian since 2014 - had to be "handcuffed to a gurney" and was placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold known as a 5150.

Section 5150 allows a clinician to involuntarily confine a person who is believed to be suffering from a mental condition that makes them a danger to themselves or others, or is otherwise unable to make their own decisions about their medical treatment.

One source told E! News that Kanye was "doing better", but was not being allowed access to a phone or computer to aid his recovery.

Another source told PEOPLE that Kanye has been "falling apart" since Kim's traumatic robbery in Paris during Fashion Week.

"It’s like Kanye is falling apart now, because Kim hasn’t been able to give him her full attention," the source added.

Others who are close to the star claim that he feels is under "spiritual attack".

"He feels like he’s under spiritual attack, and has been for awhile. It’s not just the big things; it’s smaller, quieter things, internal things. He’s dealing with a lot more subtle issues," a friend told PEOPLE.

"His mother died in November, so this time of year always brings him a lot of pain...He feels like it’s a trying time for his spirit."

West's close friend, singer John Legend, revealed that he was with Kim hours before they heard about the medical emergency.

"We were with Kim, actually, you know, right before all of that. I was concerned by what I saw," he told CBS This Morning.

"Hopefully he's getting some rest and some time to figure things out."

Famous friends of the rapper have begun expressing their support on social media:

I can't imagine having to play out a mental health battle in public, it's hard enough doing it without the media speculation and peoples comments. I hope he gets the help he needs and gets better soon.
