The “evil mother-in-law” and daughter-in-law relationship is one that gets played out a lot in popular culture.
And on Bride and Prejudice: Forbidden Weddings, it’s definitely been no different.
Throughout the entire season, that stereotypical relationship has been played out by mother Fatima and 21-year-old Jess, who is engaged to Fatima’s son, Seyat.
Over the past few weeks, Fatima has certainly made no secret of the fact that she doesn’t approve of her son’s fiancee.
Not only has Fatima called Jess “a slutty party girl” and “a whore”, she even attempted to bribe her with $10,000 cash to leave Seyat’s life.
Yep, it’s been very dramatic.

On tonight’s episode, Fatima’s behaviour was no different.
The night before his wedding, Seyat’s mother and father tried again to talk Seyat out of marrying Jess.
“You’re making a mistake… and you’re not ready. Why couldn’t you just stay friends?” Fatima asked her son.
“Why did you marry her [Fatima] in the matter of two weeks?” Seyat questioned his father Sam.
“You knew each other for two weeks and then you got married. Why?”
“Our marriage, it just had feeling,” Sam responded.
“That’s how I feel right now,” Seyat said.
Despite attempting to talk her son out of the wedding, Sam and Fatima begrudgingly attended Jess and Seyat's wedding.
"This is sickening," Fatima uttered under her breath.
But in an even more unexpected twist, after weeks of anticipation that Fatima would ruin the wedding, she didn't say another word as Jess and Seyat were married - even when the celebrant (and the producers) provided her the opportunity, asking if anyone wanted to say something.
Yep, we're confused too.
Despite doing her best to respect Seyat's decision, it's safe to say Australia are still not big fans of Fatima...

Doesn’t it pretty much always work out this way, though? There’s huge drama through the series, threats and tears, stress and worry - and in the end, it all comes to nothing. I reckon it’s partly the people being riled up by the producers, pushed to go further than they might normally, and partly the way the shows are edited and advertised. How many other shows - Masterchef, MKR, The Block - have promised big dramatic events, only for it to be nothing very much, leaving everyone sitting there saying “Is that it?”. It reminds me of watching Say Yes To The Dress. There’s always one friend or family member who shits all over the brides choices, and just when they’ve built up the drama and you think they’re going to say something nasty about the dress the bride loves... ta dah, they suddenly do a total 180 and love it so much! I’d lay good money that the mum here never had any intention of stopping the wedding, and the dad from yesterday’s one was always going to go to the wedding.
It also seems a bit weird to be like "this whole Daughter in Law vs Mother In Law/woman vs woman thing is so played out and tired" but then slavishly report every detail of every show that uses it.
